I experienced all things good bad ugly (plus the ugliest) at this property, here's how: Good: My first stay here was super pleasant with really nice and cooperative staff. They really earned my respect here. Bad: 1. Privacy is yet to be invented in this universe. They keep room keys, can enter anytime, you can't leave your valuables. They provide cupboard keys at an extra charge (something that should come with the room) and would obviously have duplicate. 2.Gates closed bw 10-6 there's complete curfew (as if you're paying for a prison experience lol). And get late by a few minutes and you're being fined 100 bucks an hour. 3. Wi-Fi is wickedly slow, 90s india would have faster internet than here. Ugly: Extremely Homophobic staff! "Couples are not allowed until they're married." "Opposite genders not allowed to stay together." 1950s india would be more progressive than youth hostel kolkata in 2025 Lmao Jokes apart it would not even be legal to deny stay just because a couple is unmarried.. It's india (and not taliban-controlled afghanistan), it's 21st century, live-in relationships (including same gender/LGBTQIA+) are commonplace, that too in the most conservative pockets, and they'd deny lodging that's already paid for in advance, just because a couple is unmarried!!! Ugliest: They are outright extortionists. They'd claim outrageous damages even for accidents as innocent as hairoil spillage on the sheet (something that usually happens if you apply hairoil on your scalp and gets easily cleaned). Even so if you're willing to bear the full cost for laundry. And that's still fine, I don't mind paying. But how about an invoice for the damage? No, certainly not!! I was certainly not paying without an invoice. And I've to thank officials at YHAI who agreed with me and tried to reason with the warden Mr Bose. But he'd still not listen, thanks to his arrogant and demeaning attitude. But I tried to save the day, paid the 450 bucks they asked for, and left with a ruined day and a ruined experience.

I had a mixed experience here. I was travelling to kolkata for the first time but this hostel ruined it for me. First off, It's located in a shady street with nothing much to do around. So you venture out far and it gets late in the night, but mind you, they'd not let you in after 10 pm, even if you're late by a few minutes. However, if you plead earnestly, they'd charge you a few hundred rupees (amount arbitrary, depends on their mood) and let you in. This is not the case with Bengali tenants, however, exposing their selective penalizing of non natives and xenophobia. The warden, especially, is very strict, like the typical hostel warden of your college, prolly even worse. So if you want to relive the nightmares of your strict hostel warden, this is your place. He talks in an intimidating tone, doesn't listen to any negotiations regarding late arrival time, no matter how justified, and is generally non-cooperative. I missed out on lots of fun my friends had planned bc of this hostel. Plus, the rooms are not as nice as they seem in the pictures. The furniture is creaky and the room is bug-infested. On the last day of my stay here, a HUGE snake was spotted in the hostel premises, so the area is not even safe. If you got bit by the snake, I doubt they'd let you leave the hostel after 10 pm, considering how hell bent they are on their rules. P. S. : no hospitals around. The staff is generally quiet but some of them are quite judgemental and would stare at you creepily for your choice of dressing or makeup. Moreover, they're always on the lookout for charging you exorbitantly for silliest of mistakes or non-compliance with rules that they don't give prior notice of, so don't be lured by the "cheap" pricing (it's a scam). Plus, the breakfast they serve is incredibly distasteful, so rely on street food if you plan on staying here (tip: don't).

I stayed in this hostel. Clean and tidy. The workers are very polite, especially since I am a foreigner and even though I don't understand their language, they explained to me as much as possible the things I needed, the culture and character of Kolkata people, how to behave. The price is also not expensive. Respect to all hotel staff.

Had a wonderful stay due to a lot of reasons. It is well connected to the metro, rooms and bathrooms are clean, calm and homely stay, very affordable. Neigbourhood is good to go around for a walk, also the staff is very friendly. Mr. Bose in particular was very helpful in giving his insight into the city which was extremely helpful in planning the stay. Thank you so much

The best place to stay in Kolkata. Cleanliness, the homely environment and amiable behaviour of the Staff are the key points which will be always remembered. The Warden & his guidance will make you easy to explore Kolkata. I recommend this place if you travel to Kolkata. Another thing to note that each floor is enabled to access free WiFi.

Good Rooms but don't allow to enter after 10 pm and it is disgusting!!! I missed my half of the event for this stupid rule because it is not a student hostel. And secondly they don't allow food in room!!! Not everyone can have dinner within 10 pm...... Place is good but I will not come here ever again. They are talking 750/room and you can't bring food, you can't come anytime you want. I am feeling disgusting. I thought they would consider me to come atleast at 11 pm but no they are so much stubborn to rules. I literally missed my college freshers for them.. I literally missed my reason of coming to Kolkata. I am feeling frustrated . I booked it because after 9 pm in this place we get no transportation. My trip is literally went vain for this stupid rule.......... Not gonna Come here again. Never!! Never!! Never!!!!!!
