Staying at the Sunflower Guesthouse is like stepping into a time capsule, where history seeps through the walls, and even the elevator feels like a piece of living art. Built during the British Raj, this guesthouse carries the charm of an era where elegance met practicality--though today, it leans more toward "quirky nostalgia" than luxury. The rooms? Small but clean enough to make you feel like you're staying in a well-loved antique. Space might be tight, but who needs square footage when the atmosphere is this rich? The real showstopper is the vintage elevator, a creaky, clunky marvel that feels like it belongs in a museum. Riding it is an adventure in itself--don't rush it, savor it. And the staff? Absolutely wonderful--warm, friendly, and always ready to help with a smile. They add that extra layer of comfort that makes your stay feel less like a hotel and more like visiting a gracious old home. Yes, it's a tiny bit pricier than your average guesthouse, but you're not just paying for a bed. You're paying for history, charm, and the joy of being treated like family. Totally worth every rupee.

I don't know about guesthouse's history, but I can say that the place is really beautiful and has a nice vibe for me, there's Dada who takes care of elevator, also Dada who work as officer and keepers, so if we need help, we can call Dada anytime. Also, they have free Wifi, breakfast service, and we can bring our drink and go hang out on rooftop at night. The place near a street where has so many restaurants, shopping mall, and beautiful building. The room is clean, high quality, has television and has AC machine. I and my friend really have a good sleep If you're a photogenic person, this guesthouse is good too. Next time if I have a trip in Kolkata again, I will visit and sleep here again.

This is a good guest house built during the British raj. The rooms are clean and cannot expect a luxurious feel and so are the bathrooms and is basic. There is a roof top garden as well and well maintained with plants. Th ebreakfast served is good and tasty. There are lots of old photos including the famous howrah bridge. It's an OK/decent place for the money paid.

A good budget hotel to stay at prime location of Kolkata. Rooms are neat and tidy. Even though building is old ( may be 60-70 years old construction), maintained well. Only draw back is Front desk. It is not in front but on the roof of top floor! Looks like joke but it is fact. Desk is not professionally managed. Two people sitting there with a big registry over a teapoy! Even though people are good, you feel suspicious about the authenticity of Hotel there! There is a room service boy named Samar Roy - who is really good and very prompt in service and lift operator is also very humble and good person. My overall experience is good.

Good and safe place to stay. This is like stay in home. The place is nearest to all major markets, and easily accessible. You can walk to park Street, Victoria, new market and many more. The staffs are good in behaviour and services are quick.you can experience stay in a building of more than two hundred years old. The lift of the building is also entique, it's more than century old.

The old building is very atmospheric, complete with a lift that takes you back in time. Staff member Sorub was kind and helpful and breakfast on the rooftop garden was a plus. The rooms are decent for what you're paying for; the hot water wasn't working at first but they eventually fixed it. It's a budget choice for a central location.

Looks like a historic place to stay. Buildings are old but well maintained. Lift is available till 4th floor but Old. My stay was in 5th floor. Toilet taps are old, so is the toilet. Buckets and mugs were dirty. Hot water was available to bath, Didn't have kettle. Ordering from outside allowed

It's ok hotel, decent rooms, it's not very dirty, room size is ok. Bed sheets are little bit dirty same with the blankets, but bedroom services very good. Overall decent hotel.
