I believe that the experience of visiting a new place is enhanced if the place of stay is remarkable. The Roopkatha heritage hotel at the Cossimbazar Choto Rajbari is one such excellent property. Situated some distance away from Berhampore, the hotel transports you to the grand era of the rule of the Zamindars in Cossimbazar. We stayed on the 2nd floor in a room with a view of the terrace and the mandir below. Rooms are clean and spacious. The Bathroom is also large. The property is huge, with some parts undergoing renovation. The different annexes, maze of stairs, walkways connecting the various sections of the palace are a very interesting facet of living in a palace of yore. The efforts of Ms Supriya Roy, the owner of Sugarr & Spice and the matriarch of the Roy family has really paid off and it was heartening to see her efforts at converting this property into a hotel. The food is served from an in-house kitchen and the dining hall is actually a connecting walk-way between two sections of the house. Usually old mansions have an eeroe feeling to them, but thankfully, this one was bereft pf those. We took walking tour of the grounds, the puja-mandap, the various courtyards and the terraces when free from our sightseeing of Murshidabad and totally loved it. We saw that the property is open to outside visitors but they dont enter the interiors. Local women serve as guides to the palace. Some of the furniture remained covered in plastic sheets, as renovation work was underway. Overall, we had a fantastic stay in this beautiful palace steeped in history. Good job, Sugar & Spice for this fantastic effort.

We stayed in Cossimbajar rajbari for two nights from 17-19th Dec 2018. We had booked three rooms on the upper floor and it was fabulous. Book the larger suite room costing around 5k per night. The standard rooms are 4k. The staff is courteous and food is basic bengali and chinese fare but homely and tasty. The palace has been painstakingly resorted by Roy family of Sugar&Spice. There is a sugar & spice outlet in the palace ground as well. Its a complete palace with a clock tower, temple, Chandi mandap, darbar hall, dancing hall, ponds and mango orchards. Its surely the best place to stay in Murshidabad.
We have been travelling with Music Director Shantanu Moitra from Gangotri for the last 50 days until we reached here and found the worst attitude from the staffs. None of the staffs are from hospitality industry. We were supposed to have breakfast and check out at 10 am, at 7 when Shantanu Moitra tried to go out in his cycle to explore Murshidabad, they kept the gate locked and made us pay. The manager said that he was working on the instructions from the owner. Didn't received this kind of reception anywhere in India in all this years. All they wants is money and they are not interested in giving any service. In our 4 days stay, they couldn't give us breakfast at 7 am any of the days. Clearly, the owners have no clue how to run a hotel.
Very unprofessional staffs. We order the luchi combo breakfast which was good, then we had ordered the bread butter combo. We waited for long then the waiter came and took all our plates. We tried to confirm if the bread butter was coming or not. Then they told they are bringing it. They gave the food without giving an plates. We had to eat with our hands. In combo, juice was missing. Breads were not good broken not single whole piece. Folk spoon was missing. Tissue paper was not given. No good care was taken. Price is also high.
Extra ordinary experience of staying in a Rajbari/ Castle with extremely cordial owners and ever smiling and helpful staff- all inclusive package for 2 nights is recommended - Room and bathroom was majestic and clean and food was very delicious. Must go for people visiting Murshidabad.
I had booked a 3D-2N stay for 9th to 11th Oct this year. Due to some medical emergency, on 5th Oct I confirmed to Nishith Ghosh about cancelling the booking. There was no cancellation policy mentioned on the site, still I offered him any cancellation charges he may wish to deduct and refund the remaining amount. He said he'll try post Laxmi Puja (11th Oct) and I tried to get an update on 13th. Since then - today 25th Oct - he is yet to confirm back, not even responding to my phone call / text messages. Highly unprofessional behavior!
The owner of the sugar and spice belongs to the family of Kasimbazar raajbari..many Bengali films and short film are shooted here..around 1 and half hour is recommended to spend here.
I had a real-time royal feelings during the Stay unfortunately this property inspite of so nice seems neglected and should be maintained in a better way and it needs proper maintenance and should become a heritage property owners should invest and make it as a tourist spot it can be a place of interest for foreigners I had two guests with me from Paris and London they were amazed to see this heritage lucky to have visited ||if owners keep proper housekeeping staff and uplift the standard not in terms of price but should look at what' they are providing at the existing price they are charging .Amenities provided to guests are third class .||When we checked in there was some party going on and it was a mess we had a very uncomfortable stay as we were not informed there is a party going on loud music till late was disgusting food was not available inspite of our prior check in information kitchen was closed and food was out sourced ||Finally food was ok whatever we got .Staff is curtious but ||Again I would say owners should take some inspiration from Rajasthan palaces and think of renovation and maintenance keeping in mind those
