NALGARH RETREAT

We have booked for one day at Nalgarh Retreat in March 2022 when we visited Chilapata area. The property is okay with only 8 rooms (4 buildings with two floors each). The place is about 2km away from the Chilapata Forest office from where we get the entry permit with vehicle and guide to do the Jeep safari. The place is adjacent to the forest and quite a calm and quiet place. ||||We had visited Chilapata a couple of years before pandemic and took a safari and saw many animals inclduing Indian gaurs, elephants. Chilapata became famous because of a Prosenjit starrer Bengali movie " Moner Manush" was shot here by the famous director, Mr. Gautam Ghosh. ||||The rooms in the Hotel are well maintained (this is most probably the costliest place in Chilapata for accommodation) and clean with a sitting balcony at the back as well a veranda in the front. Very few staff members for service. The food is okay but very oily and the charges are also at higher side a bit.||||There is no activity place in the property except sitting out to enjoy the calmness. We went for the Jeep Safari with a spend of almost 2800 (booking charges+ vehicle charges +guide charges) but did not see a single soul during our 1.5 hours of ride. ||||Dinner is typically chicken mean and breakfast is Puri and sabji with bread and butter and eggs. ||||We found a few birds here (sun birds, Bulbuls, leaf bird, Orioles, etc.). we enjoyed our stay here. However, tourists should remember that this area has nothing much to offer except calmness and tranquility for travelers. Generally, staff are nice.

We 8 family members planned a trip to Nalgarh Retreat Dooars from 14-16 Oct during Puja holidays. Ours was a mixed of good and bad experiences which we have elaborated below,||||Things we liked: ||1. Wonderful location in the midst of Chilapata forest and wildlife||2. Excellent food 5/5 ratings||3. Good ambience||4. Jungle facing rooms||||Feedback:||1. Rooms/washroom needed to be cleaned daily||2. AC needs to be installed specially if you are accepting bookings from May/June to October else its unbearable to stay||3. Ran out of water in the washrooms ||4. Room tariffs are bit over priced considering the quality of service||||We would conclude that whatever grievances we have had with tariffs, cleanliness, service, etc.. we must appreciate the kitchen team for delightful food (Breakfast, lunch and dinner) and the awesome chef for accommodating our requests.

This is by far one of the best resorts in my opinion as well as my family and group of friends Best location [situated at the end of the forest,so it is safe from any wild animal interference, also there is village and people living very close to this place so you will not feel lonely or isolated like I felt when I stayed at other resorts which were situated at the middle of the forest :)], best food ( the food is not something unique, it is pretty much the common food we Bengalis eat everyday, but the reason I am saying it's so good is because of how perfect it is, it's simple and tasty, which fills you with satisfaction and not a feeling of bloating), it has it's own beautiful Eco system, beautiful weather and services and the staff of the resort is wonderful as well, tourist attractions are wonderful indeed and the best things are decent network, not much power outages ( either no outage or once in a day which lasts for barely 2 mins) and the forest,which is also the best forest in my opinion. This destination and resort will not disappoint you .

Stayed for a night in Dec'21.||||This is probably the only and the best hotel in terms of the location. This is RIGHT ON THE EDGE of the Chilapata Forest. There are no other homestays or hotels that can match the location.||||Good things:||||Resourceful manager. He managed to book us tickets for the Chilapata Jungle Safari for the evening that we landed there.||||Helpful staff. They took good care of us and the food that they cooked was delicious.||||Location. Unparalleled location with a sprawling lawn. The restaurant building was in a corner and the walk from our room to the restaurant in the evening was quite a thrilling one given the proximity to the jungle.||||Rooms: We stayed at the top floor of the bungalows. One side opened up to the jungle while the other opened up to the compound of the hotel. The rooms are airy and spacious with a lot of light. Quite well furnished too.||||Settlement. Cash is recommended because network is flaky, but they do accept payments through gpay. phonepe etc.||||What can be improved: ||||Sanitation. There was no water supply for a brief while in the morning while we were getting ready for sight seeing. Upon request, the pump was restarted and that restored the water supply. Also the commode flushes were defunct in multiple rooms and not just ours. They were not repaired during our stay.||||Communication. There was no way for us to connect with the hotel manager from our rooms as there were no intercom available. Mobile network is poor and we got signals for both Vodafone and Jio at different times. Not that we needed the mobile connection to talk to outsiders, but we needed it so that we could call up the manager for the requirements during our stay.

The location was great.Truely surrounded by forest. Room was big enough and bathroom was clean.Room does not have any ac.So it's a very good place to stay at winter..but in rainy season it's become very humid and uncomfortable.The maneger and the other staff are very polite and helpful.Food was delicious.It was a nice stay.
