I liked to stay in Bansal guest house for some days. A small but charming room, all clean, the location is in the Bazar Rd and near bus-and taxi stand. Rajul and his employee are very hospitable and helpful! I'll come back again!

Hotel is not maintained at All. All Rooms don't have western Commodes, paints are peeling off, windows are always open (windows don't close as they can't) Geyser not there in all rooms lift not there as it's a small family owned location. They talk very sweetly when you book the room, and disappear when you actually arrive to the hotel. overall an average hotel, just got placed near ghat. Rates are reasonable but looking at the services are still high.

Worst place. Wondering to see other reviews having 5 star rating. All these reviews has been given by owner's son's friend and relative, it seems. Dont believe on these fake review. This hotel is not at all worth for your money. Pls don't book here else you will endup with guilt. No room service, toilet are bad. Room is full with mosquitoes. No net on window. Location is in narrow street and night time all drunkard people will be outside which will make u unsafe. Don't come here.

Bansal's is the original backpacker digs in Almora. Though the city is now much changed with a lot more accommodation options, Bansal's remains a good choice for its value-for-money proposition and fine location. Close to the bus stand and taxi stand on the Mall Road nearby, it's especially useful if you arrive late or need to leave early. Run by the friendly Bansal family, Rajul Bansal the patriarch is a fount of information on Almora and the Kumaon region. For those wanting to stay and experience Almora, this guesthouse overlooks the beautiful, colourful and vibrant Lal Bazaar area, the true heart of Almora. A pedestrian-only road runs along the ridge, running northeast to southwest for almost 1.7 kms, lined with a dazzling array of shops and traditional restaurants. Narrow alleys run off it, some leading down to the Mall Road below, others to sundry temples and craftworkers houses. The rooms in Bansal are a bit compact but clean and there's hot water in the bathrooms. It's advisable to bring an anti-mosquito lotion or bodyspray, as the windows don't have a mesh. Do keep the door closed, unless you want the local troop of monkeys to march into your room. There are affordable and clean restaurants within walking distance of the property.

I have stayed at Bansal many times over the years and it's always a pleasure. Rajul the owner is so friendly and helpful as well as artistic and knowledgeable. If I arrive in Almora too late for my onward journey, this is always the first place I come to, to spend the night. This is a beautiful old property, and the rooms are simple and always spotlessly clean with fresh bedding. The location is perfect being both close to the upper bazaar and the lower Mall road for transport connections.

I stayed at Bansal Guesthouse in the lovely and ancient town of Almora for a total of 20 days. I have been in India for almost one year on a research fellowship that has taken me to many parts of the country where I've lived for several months at a time in guesthouses and home stays and this was definitely my favorite place I've stayed! The kind owner Mr. Rasul Bansal and his smiley and amazingly kind helper Ashok ji became like uncles to me and I can honestly say I haven't stayed at a friendlier hotel or home stay anywhere in India! As a a young woman traveling alone, I also felt extremely safe staying here and also like I was being looked out for. The rooms are simple, but very clean and staff are very available, exceedingly friendly and go above and beyond to check that all things are well. I highly recommend the rooftop view with lovely views of the hills at sunset, cool breezes in the evenings, and a great perch from which to observe comings and goings in the market below. Bansal's menu is simple with not a ton of elaborate dinner options, but the cafe itself is a nice place to work, hang out, meet locals, and the breakfast (especially the pancakes!) is quite good. Rajul Bansal has impeccable English, and Ashok's is quite good too, and both are happy to share information and advise on logistics within Almora or making plans for trips beyond. Several times over meals, Rajul sat and chatted with me about my work in Almora or life back at home which was really nice. These guys truly go above and beyond what they need to in order to help their guests out, for example, genuinely interested in how I was each morning, checking on me frequently when I was sick in bed for a week, walking me all the way to the bus stand since I had extra bags when leaving, or helping me get sweets from the oldest and most famous shop in town when I had a dinner reservation. I'll miss this place mostly for its exceptional people and will certainly be back next time I'm in Almora!
