I found this hotel at the last minute and managed to get a room on the day which I was grateful for given the bad experience I had with a nearby guest house I had originally booked to be stay at. I did not experience the reception staff to be warm, friendly or helpful and had to check a lot of basic questions but even then responses were very matter of fact and not very clear. I would say they fulfilled their standard duties. The location however is very good being right next to the ghats with easy access. The hotel can provide a motor bike driver should you get stuck with how to find the hotel or need help getting there so do contact them. The room I was given was basic but had a nice little view of the ghat/river. I think there is room for improvement regarding cleanliness and general updating of the room facilities but it did me for the few days I was staying there. The hotel cleaning and restaurant staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was very good and plentiful and beautiful rooftop view of the ghats and Ganges, great for people watching or catching some rays. I would give the hotel a 3.5 star because the rooms could do with modernising and the reception staff could definitely be more welcome and helpful.

Dwivedi Hotels Palace on Steps offers a mixed experience. The room was basic but stuffy and smelly, with unpleasant odors from the area below the windows. The hotel is slightly dated, yet the staff was friendly and helpful. The location is fantastic, close to Dashashwamedh Ghat, where you can enjoy a vibrant evening ceremony. The view from the room overlooking the river is breathtaking. Highly recommend dining at Aadha-Aadha Cafe for clean, tasty, and affordable meals. The rooftop ambiance is lovely. Mona Lisa Cafe is another great nearby option. Overall, a good stay for its location and views, despite minor issues.
Honestly it was a great experience of staying at Dwivedi Hotel Palace on steps- we stayed for 2 days and had booked the rooms "Saptarishi Suites". Rooms: the rooms are decent and well maintained with an adjacent balcony facing the Ganga river and ghats. Amazing View!! This hotel is just perfect if you want to experience the vibe and beauty of Banaras. Location: Any hotel we looked for on the ghats were situated away from the main road ( the cabs can only drop you till here) as the roads after this transform into the "galliyans". So we had to walk for 7-8 mins to reach the property. The lanes are narrow and conjested... But the view of the hotel is worth the walk!! The hotel staff is very cooperative and they sent a person as well to help us with the luggage. Service: The owner is very courteous and approachable.. The staff too are very helpful and cooperative. Everyone spoke well and were well behaved. They helped us with the luggage, booking the boat at reasonable rate, and also helped in planning our itinerary. Since the lanes to the main road were confusing, many times one of their staff also escorted us to the main road. Attractions: all major attractions like Dashaswamedh ghat ( evening Ganga aarti), Kashi Vishwanath Temple , Gowdowlia market, are all nearby. We would walk through the ghats reach them in 10 mins. All are at a conveniently walking distance. Would highly recommend this hotel- you will have a wonderful experience of Banaras here. The river view is the major plus point for which u will have to compromise a little on the distance.
Good things first||The view from the room was nice. There was a balcony just outside that could be walked around but shared with other occupants nearby, No room for chairs out there though.||Staff were pleasant, helpful. The porter told be the mini bar was free, it was full lots of bottled water and a few cans of coke/sprite/juice - really nice touch, well it added value for money anyway.||On to the bad stuff...||The smell in the room. Not sure what it was, not damp, kind of like paint, it was hideous and is the main reason I had a headache the whole time I was there.||The room/suite was really large but split into two parts, causing the bed to look & feel too big for the room. The mattress was soft and lumpy and didn't help with sleep. Furniture was sparse, 2 chairs, no table, no desk. No in room safe (could easily have had one in that ugly, ugly wardrobe).||There were many bugs, it wasn't safe to put anything down on the floor. I don't think they were cockroaches but that didn't really make me feel better. Stepping on these things set off some sort of chain event where 15 minutes later, it would be surrounded by tons of ants feasting on the free food.||A 3 night stay here in the Milaap Suite cost over Inr40000. Dev Diwali prices? No one cares what festival it is, this was a complete rip off. Speaking of rip offs, The Dev Deepawali boat ride organised by the hotel - Inr2000. Airport transfer (which I didn't know was shared) - Inr1000.||No. I wouldn't go back.
A wonderful hotel overlooking one of the main Ghats in Varanasi, in a 400 year old former palace. This not a purpose built western hotel, but perfect if you want to immerse yourself into Varanasi's culture. The stay starts with a 500m metre walk through a maze of narrows passages from the main road, with hotel staff sent to carry your bags and lead the way! The hotel is spread across the waterfront and has a simple restaurant that serves amazing food and has a terrace with stunning views. We stayed two nights in the Kashi Suite which was a beautiful round turret room with the windows opening onto the Ganges, and with a little wrap around balcony. The hotel arranged private sunset and sunrise boat trips, and a half day heritage walking tour, all were reasonably priced and a must. Hotel Elena is located next to the Brijrama Palace and the main evening Ganga Aarti is a very short walk away.||The staff at Hotel Elena were friendly and helpful, and we had Pramod who ensured we had everything we needed. We loved our stay and would thoroughly recommend.
Stayed in rooms nos. 203 and 206|1. Bathrooms need major upgradation. No exhaust fans, wet and dry areas not separated, flushing not adequate, basin faucets not up to the mark.|2. Flushing was so pathetic in room no. 206 had to change to room no. 204.|3. No hot water taps in basins of rooms 206/204.|4. Closets in rooms nos. 204/206 too small.|5. Entrance to balcony in room no. 203 is very low. I banged my head once.|6. Location of the hotel is superb if one stays in the Ganga-facing rooms like we did.|7. Restaurant food is good.|8. Car booking for trips from hotel desk is very convenient.|9. Staff behaviour and cooperation is fantastic.
We had initially booked for 2 days but extended by another day. Polite and friendly staff. They assisted us through the gullys of Varanasi, both pick up and drop. The inhouse restaurant makes delicious homely food and delivers right on time. We had a river view room and bottled water, toiletries, tea kits and extra blanket was promptly supplied. They clean the balconies etc on a daily basis too. The ghat is just a few minutes away and one can also just sit and watch the ghat, river and boats from the room.
Terrible manager with no concern for the guests. We were late for our flight and he was prompt to say that we will miss the flight instead of helping us We finally managed to reach in time. Food was not made available Rooms were good with all toiletries Really need to change the attitude to do better.
