Abhayaranyam Government Guest House

The place is good, but their room cancellation fees are very high compared to private parties. I booked two premium suits and canceled 28 days before the stay, and I still lost 50% of my booking fees, which is a loss of Rs.8000. This is too high a price to pay when you cancel a trip due to unforeseen circumstances. I advise you not to book rooms here in advance. Try to book rooms only a day or two before you go. Also, there is no option to cancel your ticket partially. Such huge cancellation fees are too much for a government-run guest house. I booked another place through makemytrip.com and got a full refund even though I canceled two days before the trip.

We stayed in Abhayaranyam rest house. The rest house is decently maintained. The place is peaceful. The staff are very polite and helpful. The food was amazing. At night we could sight a wild elephant right outside our room window. So be very cautious at night/late evening. Only con is that if they have any and I mean ANY govt. Official or relatives of them, then they are prioritised over you.

Rooms are not well maintained particularly bathroom and toilet. Very calm and good place. You can enjoy the nature on the night stay. Separate glass door tower is there. Had a very good experience. Tasty Food was provided

Its a big clean room, and that's everything nice I can say about this. Absolutely drab experience, the night guard Vishnu is really really bad. He locked us in and then went to his room to drink and possibly kept drinking all night! He's also rude and talks to you like he's doing favors. Day guard Krishnan is good, sweet and helpful but his wife tried to take 50rs extra from us for food without giving is bill so I'm surprised. When we asked Krishnan for bill, thanks to him he immediately provided and corrected his wife's calculation. When we stayed we were the only ones booked there. But in the evening a whole group of Krishnan's family came, visited, chatted, stayed, I also don't know what is the deal with that. Is that allowed even? Finally coming to the part of the thrill of staying inside the jungle. This place is overhyped and there's hardly much to see here. If you truly wanted to see animals at night and stay inside jungle, I'd recommend Bandipur Safari Cottages by Karnataka government. Same forest, just Karnataka side. Infact even the safari at Mudumalai side is useless, 1 hour safari with rare sightings of animals (you can check their chart, they saw 1 tiger in whole week). If you stay in Bandipur, sightings are also better. I saw tiger 3 days our or 4, saw leopards twice, bear once, and elephants multiple times. Overall I rate this stay as an absolute waste of 5000 bucks!

Rooms are good and peaceful place to stay. I have been here long back and now the place has been renovated and looks cool and neat. Must visited place, I have been here many times this moment is memorable since we saw Leopard and Elephant near by memorable place.

If you are little adventurous, this place is highly recommended. I was here with my 4 year old and we totally loved it. The thrill of finding an animal made us stay up, all night. We saw a wild boar at around 11:00 PM and then there were lots of sounds (might be because of animal movement) but we couldn't find anything in the darkness and then to add to all this excitement at around 4:00 AM we found a sloth bear grunting and snorting right at our door step. Peacock's and deer's are common sightings in the morning. Mr. Maran (caretaker) was courteous made us amazing dinner and shared lots of stories around wildlife. Overall an exciting and wonderful stay. And do note, not to expect a 5 star service. You are in a midst of wonderful Nature, appreciate that.

The location is superb. The ambience is very serene and rejuvenating. But there is no safety at all specially during night. No electric fencing. No guard at night. Only 2 or 3 people will stay in the property and they keep themselves locked at night. People passing by the property will visit for a snack or coffee in the middle of the forest. It is not recommended for a couple. But if you are with friends or multi couple/familt then you can try.

Other than the location, everything is worst. Rooms were not clean, no maintenance at all. Service also not good.
