The Bungalow on the Beach-17th Century, Tranquebar

I stayed for one night at Neemrana. The property has a charming ambiance but could definitely benefit from better maintenance. The swimming pool, in particular, needs more frequent and thorough cleaning. While the staff mentioned that wind causes leaves and insects to collect, I didn't see anyone clean the pool during my stay. The debris I noticed at 3 PM remained untouched even by the following evening. ||On a positive note, the staff were friendly and helpful, which made the experience welcoming. Breakfast was tasty with limited but well-prepared options. Lunch and dinner are on the pricier side, but given the lack of nearby alternatives, it's wise to plan accordingly. ||Overall, Neemrana has great potential, but a bit more attention to upkeep would make the experience even better.

A lovely heritage bungalow right on the beach and ocean. Our room was facing east and we had the most amazing views of the sunrise on the waters. Sitting on the veranda listening to the sound of the waves at night was a magical experience. |The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, especially chef Satish. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for peace and tranquility in Tranquebar!

We very much enjoyed this place from another time. We had the 'Crown Prince of Denmark' room. Sounds grand, but lives up to the door plate in every way. We loved sitting out on the terrace, enjoying the calm and uninterrupted views of the sea. Compliments also to the kitchen who provided us with great Indian fare. This isn't a swanky 5-star hotel, rather it's a homely place with super friendly staff who are giving their very best even if communications can be a little difficult at times.

Tharangambadi is one of the most under-rated places of historical interest that deserves much more attention than what it gets now. This quaint, little place, that stands testimony to Danish establishment in India, owing to lesser tourist inflow, has got very less number of hotels (especially talking about luxury hotels). Among those few, Bungalow on the beach, a property of the Neemrana hotels is THE most luxurious stay that you would find in Tharangambadi. Although, the hotel must have once soared at its glorious best but what remains now is a gorgeous structure with moderately dwindling maintenance and borderline poor service. Let's first talk about the structure, although it's picturesque and grand, but you can spot various areas in the room that has damp walls and frail plasters. Also, the chairs outside the rooms are rarely cleaned and hosts a bunch of lizards and their remnants. The place is severely under-staffed with the same set of people serving as receptionist, bellhop, waiter as well as parking guard. In fact, it is very much possible that you have to carry your own luggage to your room. Needless to mention, getting the right service at the right time is pretty much absent. Despite these why would one choose this property? Well, for the simplest reason - its location and the heritage of the building. All the places of interest at Tharangambadi are at a stone's throw away from the hotel. Be it the Dansborg fort, the trading port, the Masilanathar temple, the Governor's bungalow or the Zion church, all are at a walking distance from Bungalow by the beach. Also, food is good, however breakfast spread could definitely be increased. This is particularly in context to the hefty price that one has to pay per day to stay in the property. With everything said and done, if you are a history enthusiast, who can ignore the minor to major inconveniences of a hotel stay and have slightly more money that you can cough up, Bungalow on the beach IS your go to stay while touring Tharangambadi!! Great place. Comfortable rooms. Nice sea view from the room. Yummy food! Good service. Service can be a bit slow at times but that's ok. Friendly receptionist. I'm quite impressed by this Neemrana property.

We had one night stay with family in Neemrana bungalow on the beach, the property is literally on the shore, incredible 180 degree view of the ocean, you can see and hear the dancing and singing waves all day long. The property being 300+ years old has it's own charm and takes you centuries back although all modern amenities are there in the room which are very spacious. Staff is very helpful and courteous, food is made to order, very tasty, and served on the tables placed in the corners of the verandahs on four sides with mesmerizing views. The swimming pool was very clean and warm, the town has a Danish architectural flavour, everything including the Danish fort is within walking distance makes the stay perfect. I would definitely recommend this place to spend a weekend and enjoy the unique experience which is just 2 hours drive from Pondicherry or 4 hours from Chennai. Don't forget to drive to the harbour pier which is 1 km inside the ocean.

The best place to stay in Tranquebar! It's right on the beach next to the Danish fort and Ziegenbalg landing place! All the attractions are a walking distance away. Wonderful rooms, great view and good food. Just go for it... Neemrana never disappoints!
