Hotel Nippon Palace

Average hotel with less amenities. Lot of scope for improvement

The property is located right on the state-highway on the approach road to Tranquebar. We booked a family room for almost 2400 a night and the hotel did not disappoint. The check-in was smooth and the manager was extremely helpful as well. The rooms are spacious but apart from towels, they did not provide any other amenities. AC, TV, fans were functioning as they should, so no complains there. The major problem with the property is that it is only for lodging and given the paucity of options in Tranquebar, places to feed yourself are limited. ||The property is located at a 10min walk from the beach and other tourist spots, so be mindful of that.||Overall, given the helpful nature of the staff and the fact that it delivers on what it promises (i.e. lodging only), I will recommend it to others (if they do not manage to book the other heritage/ resort properties)

Nice and well maintained hotel in sleepy town of tharangambadi. Visiting this hotel for day. Accommodation is neatly maintained and spacious. Only disadvantage is they don't have restaurant in hotel. It may be not be disappointment if you have your own vehicle. Ample parking space is available. Staff is helpful. Can recommend this place for future stay.

A very basic hotel in a very small town. It has no amenities as such, but the rooms are kept clean. It has no restaurant even. But the town is so small that there are no other hotels that compare, nor restaurants to eat. There is only one other hotel in town but that's a different class all together. Despite that the folks at the hotel try their best to take care of your needs. They made us coffee ever in the morning and arranged for breakfast from a local mess. Overall, 4 star because of it's tidyness and the helpful staff.

Positive: the place was right in the middle of the city cost was too good had suitable place for driver stay.. Negative: curtains in windows were very small hence privacy was an issue. no food was available. not even tea or coffee was available..

In a place with limited options, Hotel Nippon is a good budget hotel. Located about a km away from the beach / Danish Fort (Dansborg) is another added advantage.||||We paid Rs. 1,500/- for a twin sharing A/C room. If I am not wrong, non A/C room was available for Rs. 980/-. Hot water was available throughout. The folks were kind enough to put the Solar Water Heater on early in the morning on the day we were checking out so that we could bathe early and leave.||||As mentioned by some of the reviewers, this place does not serve any food / beverages.

I wanted to visit the Tranquebar/Tarangambadi Danish fort and this led to me looking for accommodation at Tranquebar/Tarangambadi area itself. Only two options was available. One was the ultra uxorious Bungalow on the beach, and the other was Nippon Hotel. For the time I was to spend at Tranquebar - less than 24 hours; the Bungalow was not an option at all. ||||Nippon Hotel is located on the highway from Karaikkal towards Sirkazhi and Chidambaram. The hotel and its amenities needs to be evaluated considering the surrounding area. Tranquebar/Tarangambadi even today is a one street town, and the tourist attractions have not changed the rural/village settings in the area. For a normal traveller on the road this village would get easily forgotten as one of the small villages on the road side. Nippon Hotel is a budget hotel and can be considered slightly better than the "lodge" found in Indian towns. The room I was allotted had items for bare minimum comfort. Two beds joined to form one bigger bed, an LCD TV mounted onto the wall & a working intercom. There was a small shelf embedded into the wall, and had wooden doors. A plastic chair and a small table (teapoy) completed the furniture. The TV channels were Tamil only. The bath room & toilet was clean, but the wash basin placed on a corner of the main room had a leaky tap. Wi-Fi services was not provided, but my AirTel 4G dongle was fast enough for use.||||The hotel does NOT have a restaurant in-house. Food orders needs to be placed with the reception or the room boy. The food options are limited considering that Tranquebar/Tarangambadi has only one restaurant (and not a very fancy one), and the hotel staff have to go here and get the food. The food quality was good; it was simple and tasted good (and better than those served by more popular bigger restaurants). The staff at Nippon Hotel was helpful and they handled multiple food orders from me quickly. At the time of check in I was not provided with towel & toiletries, so checked with the staff on whether this was not provided. They do provide these items and quickly provided me the same as well.||||Nippon Hotel is just a kilometre away from the main attractions i.e Danish Fort, the beach, and Danish houses on King's street. Staying at Nippon Hotel means that more time can be spent relaxing at an Indian village moving at a slow place and also enjoying the historical monuments. With only a short distance to travel, I was able to spend a good amount of time at the Danish Fort in the evening as well as at sun rise time. Nippon Hotel has a good parking area and for people driving down to Tranquebar/Tarangambadi this would be an advantage. Please note that the hotel does NOT accept any form of card or online payment.

Clean rooms & toilet, friendly staff, located by the highway, so maybe a bit noisy to some. There is no restaurant so for good food you may have to go to a nearby town, we drove to Karaikal (11 km /20 mins) and had awesome Chettinad food at Karai Chettinad Palace. Awesome mutton kheema dosa, prawn roast, sear fish fry.
