The place is located at a residential street but not too far from the Big Temple. A place worth going back!..

A pleasant surprise and a welcome find I found when planning for a holiday in TNJ. The asthetic look and feel attracted me along with the user reviews. The place is maintained in a traditional calm setup and one can experience it. The caretaker here is a value add who is always on his toes delivering the best in his efforts and guiding for anything we need. I didn't click much of pics as am immersed in the experience for myself and my family!

I stayed here with my family during 1st week of Feb 2025. We loved the place and house is beautiful and well maintained. We had our own car, so transport was not a problem. This was our first time to Thanjavur. We fell in love with the house and the city. I'll definitely stay in this house next time when I am in Thanjavur. Thank you Kalaiselvi for all the help with the booking and adjustments later.

Kamna Niwas is located fairly far from tourist attractions or the business areas and unless one has a car parked outside, it's almost impossible to get a conveyance unless onenpays extortionate charges by local cab or auto drivers. Kanna Niwas is a house constructed about two years back. It is run remotely from Chennai by an enterprising couple with the help of an attendant who is the man Friday. I was fortunate that the owner was there at thebproperty when I arrived and his presence and helpful ways made the home stay get transformed into a stay at home. He helped me wash my clothes in the washing machine and I had to tell him to jot help while putting my clothes out to dry on the second floor terrace. Helped me with local I fo plus travel advisory for Trichy and Madurai. Also attended cultural program with one of his family member. Kind of cultural immersion. 5 / 5 to Rathi.kannan for all that and more. Now to the general information that would be of interest to those looking for inputs on stay options at Thanjavur. The three rooms on the ground floor are much smaller as compared to the two rooms on the first floor. There is little or no food arrangement, unless one lugs or buys provisions and cook it on the burner using thebutensils provided by the owner. It's unlikely that tourist would do that. The TV works fine. But there are no comfortable chairs with cusions eitherbin the common (non a.c. drawing room) or in the rooms. Nor there is no desk in the room and the light levels are low. The foam mattress is not firm and sags. Also the furniture and bathroom fittings are well below par. On the penultimate day of my stay there were three new families whose schedul3s and noises were disturbing. As was the sight of the driver and the attendant sleeping on the drawing room floor early inttaarnett morning. Somehow the homestay, claiming a heritage tag does not provide the kind-of peace, tranquility, grandeur or class that heritage properties offer. I wont come back to Kanna Niwas, unless Rathi was there again. But low-budget foreign travellers will possibly by lured by the key word 'heritage stay' andnothers looking for those large upstairs rooms and the kitchen to prepare family dinner.

Kanna Nivas was amazing! From the interior design point of view to the comfort of the place we loved everything about it! The service was on top tier as well, I left my powerbank there and the owner made sure to send it back to me, they took the trouble to post it to my next hotel in chennai and kept following up with me on the status. I truly appreciate the gesture. Kanna Nivas is definately home away from home! We will definately stay only there whenever we visit Thanjavur. Special thanks to Kumar for the great hospitality.

Kanna Niwas has gifted me many beautiful memories. Sitting on the wooden swing and reciting Ramraksha and Ganapati Stotra reminded me of my childhood days at the maternal home in Konkan. Reading book in this quite place, rays of rising Sun filtering on my face , swinging slowly was divine. Kanna Niwas is aesthetically crafted and the selection of paintings and artifacts show the rich cultural taste of the owner. I loved the wooden bed , so comfortable. The typical Red and Green Tamil heritage flooring reminded me of my Tamil friend's home at Matunga. The home stay is designed keeping in mind every minute necessary detail the visitors would like to have. Communication with the manager and the care taker was the best. Very helping. Very clean, neat and sophisticated living here. I loved the place. Thank you so much. Would love to come again and again and again

Wow what a stay at "Kanna Nivas". Note: I usually post my honest reviews only if it is worth it!!!! A. Travel Plan: In the first week of December 2024, I started planning for a trip along with my family to cover the below places from 22nd December onwards: 1. Karaikudi 2. Madurai 3. Tanjavur B. Interaction with the owners of "Kanna Nivas" When i searched for accommodations in Tanjavur, "Kanna Nivas" was one of the search results. i shortlisted this accommodation based on google reviews and when i enquired with the owner (Mr and Mrs. Rathnavel). Based on my request, the owner Mrs. Rathnavel shared me the latest photos of the accommodation and also helped me a lot in the overall planning in terms of the important places to be covered in and around Tanjavur!!!!. The chances of getting very good accommodations in the last week of December is very rare as most would be booked well in advance, we were lucky to get for 25th December. We booked the room with penthouse option (Bunk Bed). C. About our stay in "Kanna Nivas" Having visited Karaikudi and Madurai from 22nd - 25th December morning, when we visited (3 Adults + 1 Kid) Tanjavur on 25th December around noon, the weather was very pleasant. Reaching "Kanna Nivas" was easy based on google maps and the moment we entered the accommodation, my entire family had a "WOW" factor!!!!! Wow what a marvelous architecture, very well planned one!!!! The owners are really great to let out such a posh house for guests, hats off to them!!!! The rooms are very spacious with all the amenities needed. We had planned only for one day stay at this accommodation i.e. check-in on 25th December and check-out on 26th December. However considering the accommodation and the weather conditions, my entire family wanted to extend for another day for sure since we wanted to cover in and around Tanjavur relaxedly. Immediately spoke to the owner Mr. Rathnavel to enquire if the room was available for 26th December as well or not. Mr. and Mrs. Rathnavel tried their best to help us regarding this, however since all the rooms were already pre-booked for the mentioned date, unfortunately we couldn't get it for 26th-December. However the owners suggested few other accommodations to be tried out for 26th December, thanks a lot for all the help provided. The owner helped us in suggesting Veg and Non-Veg restaurants. For veg, he suggested "Chellamalls" and for non-veg "Hotel Kannappa". He also suggested to try out "Elaneer Payasam" in "Hotel Kannappa". D. Caretaker's help!!!! One of the house maintenance person/caretaker Mr. Kumar guided us to park my vehicle at the right location, offered us water and provided the check-in form. He and his partner ensured that we were comfortable. When any of my family members wanted Tea/Coffee, Mr. Kumar prepared fantastic Tea/Coffee which was liked very much by my family members. He helped us by providing few games like Magnetic Chess, Dart, etc.. His politeness, calmness, the respect for the visitors is very much appreciated!!! Thanks to Mr. Kumar for making our stay a very comfortable and memorable one!!!! E. Food 1. For lunch, we visited Hotel Kannappa and tried "Elaneer Payasam" and wow it was awesome taste!!!!. Thanks to Mr. Rathnavel for suggesting this must try!!!! 2. For dinner, we visited "Chellamalls", taste of every dish we tried was very good. F. Places covered in and around Tanjavur 1. Tanjavur Palace - Museum 2. Brihadeeswara Temple 3. Velankanni Church and Beach - We extended our stay in Tanjavur for one more day on 26th December by getting another accommodation. Overall, my entire family was very happy with our stay in Tanjavur especially "Kanna Nivas". Thanks a ton to the owners for making our stay truly a great and memorable one!!!! I will surely recommend staying @ Kanna Nivas, truly worth it!!!!!.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful traditional homestay. Came all the way from Coimbatore to Thanjavur and found another real but cozy home The house itself is beautifully preserved, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the area. What truly set this homestay apart, however, was the personal touch - the hosts went above and beyond to ensure my stay was comfortable. My age old parents felt happy that it was pretty silent around, away from vehicle sounds and busy streets. Thanks Selvi, the best incharge. You are kind enough to make our stay memorable.
