Good place with a peaceful atmosphere compared to the cities rush and buzz. Early mornings are a delight with Mount nearby we can go for a walk up the Mountain and get fresh air or can see the whole city awaking or the flight landing scenic view. Rest mode on

I stayed in Century Garden for 9 days in February as i was making a move to Chennai from Bangalore. Century Garden is located at the foot of St. Thomas Mount hill. They have some pretty decently furnished rooms and the rooms are kept very clean by the staff. There is no restaurant in the property, but you can get one of the room boys to get food for you from any of the nearby eateries, they do sell packaged drinking water though. ||The place has car parking which is a bit of a problem in Chennai ordinarily. There is no WiFi, but they do have power backup and 24 hrs. hot water delivered through a geyser in every room. Double AC / Non-AC accommodation is available to suit your budget.||||There are various options around the hotel for food that caters to every palate and most of them reasonably priced. Street food is my suggestion, but watch the water intake. Getting to the place can be a bit of a hassle, so it might be better to call and ask for directions, the counter person Raja is pretty knowledgeable and can guide you around Chennai if you are new. If you don't want to call, ask for St. Patricks church and find your way to the property.||||What i found strange, was that the cleaning staff were all male.. you would typically expect female cleaning staff in hotels. Not that they do a bad job, just that it felt odd :D.||||All in all, a no frills option for the budget conscious traveller for business or pleasure.

Sigh. I really had my hopes up for this one. It started off really good - budget friendly price, AC that worked, sometimes warm water (not a big deal - it's Chennai. The air is hot. Who needs hot water?), the room is okay, the bed is comfortable, near the airport, nice surroundings with St. Thomas Mount next door, off the main street, a little balcony with a street view. ||On the downside, hospitality is not that good - no TP, one small towel, no soap, no internet (we'll let you know when it's fixed).||We were staying a single night with an early flight the next morning. Everything was pleasant as we settled into a good night's sleep. The AC kept us cool and drowned out the sound of traffic and barking dogs. All was right. Then midnight came and the power went out. I know, it's India. The power often goes out. Problem was - it was just our room. Everywhere else had power - the neighborhood, the lobby, the hallway. Why us, we wondered? The AC stopped. The ceiling fan stopped. The dogs barking outside didn't stop. It's now 1 am. As the air in our room warmed up, so did the mosquitoes. And the dogs are still barking. It's now 2 am. The horns are honking and the dogs are still barking. The mosquitoes are now either dead or satiated. It's now 3:30 am. The dogs are still barking. It's time to go to the airport. Why is there still no power? The sleepy-eyed doorman doesn't speak English. We'll never find out. ||||I'm giving the hotel a rating of 3 because: it's a good price, the rooms are moderately attractive, the location is right, the AC was good when the power was on, staff successfully arranged a 3:30 am taxi pickup with no issues, and I truly hope that staff had nothing to do with the power outage.

Incredible India
