We stayed at this homestay in April, and the weather was cold.. it was a refreshing and memorable experience. Surrounded by lush greenery, the place offers a peaceful escape into nature. One of the highlights was the soothing sound of birds throughout the day -- perfect for bird watchers. The caretaker Simon was very polite and helpful, and the complimentary breakfast was a nice touch. Dinner, prepared by Simon's wife, was absolutely delicious and had a home-cooked charm. They are genuinely warm and kind people, which added to the comfort of our stay. However, there are a few areas that could use improvement. The rooms lacked basic amenities like cupboards for storing luggage and a mirror for getting ready. Also, the road leading to the homestay is in very poor condition and definitely needs repair. Overall, it's a great spot for nature lovers and those seeking a quiet retreat, but a few small upgrades could make the experience even better.

We booked the stay for 2 nights and 3 days. It was a pleasant stay with the following points to consider Pros. 1. The caretaker "Simon". He is the main highlight of the stay who is a gem of a person He is available 24*7 at the premises. He is the reason why Ghar homestay can be considered as home away from home 2. The food. One will get breakfast which is included in the tariff and dinner will be provided on request and is chargeable. Lunch will not be provided. The food was really tasty and home made. Simon has maintained the kitchen very clean. 3. The surroundings. The stay is located in the middle of the tea estate. The calm atmosphere is the highlight. If you are lucky enough, you will have some good sightings of the wildlife. Cons. 1. The approach road that leads to the stay is very bad and completely filled with big stones.Cars with low ground clearance cannot be driven to the stay. Also the cars cannot be parked nearby as you have to walk uphill to reach the stay 2. The network is a bit slow at the premises. It will be really helpful if they provide wifi
Nice View but Needs Significant Improvements If you're a family or couple looking for a nice getaway far from the city buzz, this homestay offers a good view and an ideal location to unwind. However, there are several drawbacks that made our stay less enjoyable: Cons: 1. Remote Location: While the isolation might be a pro for some, it's inconvenient for travelers looking to explore Ooty. The homestay is so interior that it takes nearly 2 hours from the main town to reach. 2. Accessibility Issues: Car parking is at the base, and the uphill walk to the property is very challenging, especially for the those with luggage. 3. Dining Limitations: There are no nearby restaurants, and you're entirely dependent on the food prepared at the homestay. 4. Outdated Property: The photos on booking platforms seem outdated. The homestay now feels old, with dirty rooms, worn-out bedsheets, and cramped bathrooms (the flush didn't work during our visit). The dining area is much smaller than it appears in pictures. 5. Caretaker Experience: The caretaker, Mr. Simon, tried to be humorous, but his demeanor came off as unprofessional. 6. Value for Money: Given the condition of the property, the pricing feels high. Suggestions for Improvement: Mr. Alok, it's time to renovate the property. Polishing the floors, repainting the swings, upgrading the furniture, and replacing the current setup with proper double wooden cots would make a significant difference. Overall, while the view is really good, the stay didn't match our expectations due to these shortcomings. I hope the management takes these suggestions seriously to improve future guests' experiences.
The lap of lush greenery meets tranquility, serenity, and beauty of nature. It is Ghar Homestay where individuals find happiness in life and in the silence of nature. It was an awesome stay. The food, ambience, and beauty of nature is highly appreciated. The staff were quite loving and polite. The food provided was nutritious and delicious. Guests' privacy is highly maintained. They have curated all our need and we highly recommend this place. Take a break from the hustle bustle of your busy City Life and relax and explore yourself under the guidance of Mother Nature. Absorb the essence of flora and fauna in the countryside.
Good and bad. Good: Best place for enjoying nature and very good location. Bird-watching people will love this place. House keeper Simon was very helpful. Not so good: Not worth the hype for the room. Rooms lack basic amenities. Property owners did not take a chance to ensure the basic needs of a homestay. Wifi was promised but actually not there. No place for keeping clothes or no cloth hanger. No mirror for dressing up. Bed is very basic.
We stumbled upon this exceptional budget homestay nestled amidst tea estates and forests by chance. Our host, Alok, and the staff (Satish and Karunya) were extremely humble. They made us feel right at home with delicious home-cooked meals and pampered us in our home away from home. Alok was always on-call, attending to all our needs, and he even took us on a hike to a nearby waterfall, truly customizing the experience according to our preferences. I would definitely recommend this homestay to travelers seeking peace and serenity when visiting Kotagiri.

A treasure wrapped in the silence of the Nilgiri hills, the adventures of bathing in the waterfalls nearby, the health of taking long walks from the doorstep. A lovely place, calm, serene, clean, Sympathic people, good room taste and GREAT loving service, good food, very affordable and much more personal than many standard hotels and rooms. Will come again - its medicine for stress-release! Much love to Alok & the team
