Silent Wild (Cottage in masinagudi)

Just returned from an unforgettable stay at Silent Wild Cottage in Masinagudi. Surrounded by stunning mountains and lush greenery, it's a nature lover's paradise. The service was top-notch, making our stay truly pleasant. While the rooms were average, they were comfortable, and hot water was readily available. Finally getting around to write a review for this place, we stayed back in April 2023. Unfortunately our visit to Masinagudi coincided with the PM's visit to Bandipur and hence we had to deal with a lot of restrictions. Here's my detailed review on the good and the bad aspects. The Good: 1. The host was very accommodating through the entire booking process. She kept us apprised of the current restrictions in view of the PM's visit and assured us all the way that our stay won't be impacted. She also provided us a letter to show to the police just in case we were stopped on our way. 2. The place is quite good. A small cottage with breathtaking views, perfect for a family of 8-10 people. The Bad: 1. The problems started after we checked in. Since the place is quite remote, we had asked for food to be served and placed our order for day 1 beforehand. We travelled from Bangalore and with the security checks going on due to PM's visit, we were delayed along the way and reached the resort around 5 PM. To our surprise the caretakers were already preparing to leave and had cooked all the food beforehand and we were served cold bhajjis and the rest of the food. They were even reluctant to hand us the keys to the kitchen and insisted we eat the cold food instead. In the end however, the provided the keys. There were no caretakers who stayed in the resort at night and we were left all by ourself. 2. The next morning, they did not come until around noon and we were left by ourselves for tea and breakfast. Fortunately, there's a small tea shop just outside on the main road and we had to walk around a km up the road towards Ooty to find a place for breakfast. There were no supplies even left in the kitchen so that we could prepare our own breakfast. 3. The same thing happened the next morning (the day we were preparing to leave) and the caretakers did not even show up until we left around noon. We had to lock the place and leave the keys somewhere discreet by ourselves, and yes, we had to prepare our own tea and breakfast. 4. The most pathetic part - electricity woes. The bedroom on the ground floor had a non-functioning fan. The old couple in our group who weren't physically able to go upstairs had to sleep in the ground floor, in all the heat. This could've easily been avoided if the palce was properly prepared for the incoming guests. The second night, the while ground floor did not have electricity. There were electricians who were sent by the owners, but they could do nothing. One would certainly not expect something like this when they are booking a place to stay over the weekend. 5. Regardless of the fact that there was no caretaker present at the cottage when we left, we asked the owner for our final settlement bill and left (since we had to travel to Bangalore and did not want to be delayed). The surprising response from the owner was that she expected us to settle our bill 'before' we left. I mean how does it matter to her, since there was no one present there to check us out? Still, to honour her demand, we came back 5 kms, settled the dues and then left. I would still rate the owners' commitment highly, that they did try to solve some of the issues we faced, including sending an electrician on the second evening of our stay, but things like these need to be looked at beforehand when you know that your place is already booked for the weekend. I am aware that a lot of the inconveniences that happened were due to the PM's visit and couldn't had been helped, but these are things that property owners in such jungle areas need to keep in mind. Atleast have caretakers who stay over, that a minimum! Although the place was nice, but given the overall sour experience, I am highly reluctant to recommend this place to anyone.

Best place i have ever stayed. The rain added extra vibe to the night. In the morning you can open your door to the magnificent beauty of nature and Deers, elephants, peacocks and so on. The room was dormitory and charge was affordable. They will not offer dinner. We have to bring it. This place was heavenly with a river at front forest at back side.

Pro's- Very good cottage home stay comprising of 3bedrooms 3.5 baths in a spacious site. In-home tasty meals and food can be provided if ordered prior. Great host and team is there to help out with all your needs. Con's- road leading to this homestay can be tricky since it's off road. So follow google maps consciously. And the phone network is generally down at this place but free high speed WiFi connectivity will help you make calls over WiFi.

Nice and calm, Good Food, Rooms are maintained cleanly and spacious. Good forest view in the front.

Nice home stay...very very neatly maintained. Atmosphere and garden area was soo beautiful . Every room has water heater facility hence we can get 24hrs water heater. Totally 3rooms and one hall , balcony Terese available here. All the rooms are very big and has attached bathroom. Best part here is outdoor dining facility is added advantage. It's located close to Massinagudi- Ooty main road. Overall nice experience to stay here.

Not comfortable at all. Fans in the rooms are not working properly. One hell of a pathetic place. Hate this to the core. The owners of this place are not at all ready to understand. Cruel people - money minded ***NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL**** don't fall for this trap.
