Ponni homestay

The owner and caretaker, both are very responsive, respectful. Love the whole designing of the homestay. In the bungalow, they have multiple 2 AC bedroom hall set up with attached washrooms. There are full-sized beds (smaller than a queen size) installed in both the bedrooms. The hall has sitting arrangements for five people with a TV and outdoor sitting space for two people. The terrace is accessible. Water purifier, kettle, geyser, towel and toiletries are provided. Veg and non-veg food are available in the vicinity. Especially love the styling of the property and the hospitality received. Thank for hosting us!

We booked a vacation at Ponni Homestay for three days. We reached the property around midnight and had to buy all the toiletries ourselves on the way, as a few of the previous reviews mentioned that the property does not provide any toiletries. Soon, we were asked to park our vehicle outside, as the parking only supports two cars. We had to park our car on the road where there was a construction activity going on nearby, and there was heavy machinery moving in the vicinity. There was no security guard, and only one young representative was taking up the job of giving and getting back the keys. We were concerned about the safety but decided to take up the accommodation as it was already too late. We asked if someone could take our bags to the first floor, and the representative cited that everything on the property was 'self-service.' He also gave us the keys to the main gate and told us that we must lock it when we go out, open it, and come in whenever we want to return. After reaching our rooms, we were shocked to see the place in deplorable condition. There was dust all over the place, and the toilets were disgusting. There were a lot of mosquitoes in the room and there was hair on the floor and toilet drains. It looked like the accommodation was not cleaned after the previous check-out. When asked if someone could clean it now, the representative told us that the cleaning people would come only once in the morning. He also told us that he would coordinate the cleaning activity tomorrow morning. The following day, we left the accommodation and came back in the afternoon, and we were shocked to see the place in the same condition. There was literally not a single person in the property and we were all alone. We called the representative, and he said that he'd be back in an hour. When asked about the cleaning, he said he would set it right by evening. We decided to checkout from this place as we felt unsafe and contacted Agoda for support. Thankfully, Agoda understood our situation and cancelled our booking for the remaining days. We even got the owner's number from the representative and talked to the owner, but she did not understand the situation either. So please do not book this place for your vacation, as it will completely spoil your holiday. Also, the environment is not good since construction is happening in the vicinity.

The ambiance and the location was very good, and it was nearer to many temples in Kumbakonam. The staff, Mr.Rishi, was helpful. We had booked the homestay for 2 days, but we had to vacate it in one day because there was a maintenance power shutdown, and we faced absolute inconvenience as it was the hottest day in Kumbakonam. So when we asked about it, the owner told us to vacate by refunding the balance amount. Though the homestay knew about the maintenance power shutdown, our question is why are they taking bookings that day, causing inconvenience to the visitors.
