The Bangala

Our time at The Bangala was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, we were immersed in the hotel's unique charm and warmth. The heritage architecture is beautifully preserved, blending colonial elegance with authentic Chettinad traditions. The staff were exceptionally kind, attentive, and genuinely cared about making our experience perfect. The food was simply outstanding -- every meal was a delicious journey through Chettinad cuisine, prepared with incredible love and skill. The Bangala offers a rare experience where you feel transported to another era, yet with all the comfort and hospitality you could wish for. We left with beautiful memories and the firm desire to return. Truly a hidden gem!

On a whim due to a cancellation in our flights we had to extend our stay in the region. We chanced upon The Bangala at Chettinad.||The property is a lovely old club with beautiful gardens and well appointed rooms . Our kids loved the pool and the library.||The food was out of the world and they accommodated our special dietary needs as my wife is Lactose intolerant . For Authentic Chettinad food this is the place to dine .|The staff all local were so welcoming and accommodative.||Over all great value for one's money and we look to come back for a longer stay. ||Mani Mala

Great location for visiting the Chettinad area. Why is this hotel listed as 1 star? It is at least a 3 star hotel, if not 4 star. Our room was not luxurious, but it was very large, well-appointed, and comfortable for sleeping. The pool was very nice and there were nice areas for sitting outside. The food was very good local dishes and the service was excellent. They say they don't offer alcohol, but the host was able to get us wine and beer.

We had a wonderful stay with our kids at the Bangala. The rooms were spacious and beautiful. The hotel is well maintained. The staff is also kind and helpful, right from the managers to the housekeeping. Fantastic freshly prepared meals. One of the best hotels we have stayed at, truly 5 star!

Smooth and pleasant 3-day trip, right from the airport pickup to the drop. Good, clean rooms, with lots of clothes pegs which takes them to 5 from 4.5 for me (most places overlook this). Staff prompt, courteous, and helpful (though they could smile a bit more). Jacob, the manager, runs a tight ship, and is a good host (sent us around one day with a guide and a car gratis). High on aesthetics all round. Good food with a large variety, but only set meals (no a la carte). A library with a fairly large collection; a nice swimming pool. Totally recommend. ||PS Multiple reviews mention displeasure with the staff so calling this out separately: there is just a cultural difference between that region and say, the North of India. The staff are not discourteous or rude, just reserved and quiet.|PPS Another thing to call out: the food service is not rushed at all. The servers just move around very briskly which creates that sense, but you can slow it down as much as you want.

A cozy vintage place to enjoy the karaikudi and dutch vibes. The rooms are very basic just like any other hotel rooms. Service needs loads of improvisation. Food has to be pre booked and nothing available immediately. When we stayed we had to outsource the food as we could not schedule meals accordingly. Exorbitant food pricing for the curated menu. U may plan ur meal at chidambara vilas or vilasam which had really good spread. Just felt this place is over hyped and over priced. There are other beautiful mansions where u can book ur stay. This felt like staying over in a club. Outdoor is good nothing much exciting.

This is the perfect example of local, family owned hospitality in a boutique hotel setting. The rooms are lovely and spacious. The pool area is amazing. The restaurant, cooking class, and meals were heavenly. The best part is the attentive staff ready to help with anything and everything. |This is a great choice for a relaxing holiday, a yoga retreat, a base to explore the area, or a culinary trip. |I will definitely be back

Wonderful experience at Bungalow, Karaikudi! We were welcomed with genuine warmth and hospitality. The food was absolutely delicious, and the attention to detail--from the heritage architecture to the service--was outstanding.
