A beautiful space, very simple and clean, and very cosy. The mattress is marvellous! The staff were very attentive. The village is full of surprises and has very beautiful houses. There are lots of little craft shops which were a delight. We ate very well in the area and the walk through the village was very inspiring.

Lovely heritage hotel with nice rooms The service is quite poor although the staff are nice. It's nice to have use of a nearby pool. They have bikes you can use. The coffee is bad (instant). It is quite expensive. The manager should not watch music videos at full volume during dinner - extremely rude and unprofessional. The 'sitting out area' off the room could be very nice but it's not - just a shabby balcony with no seats. Overall a nice stay but it could and should be better for the money.
I came for lunch, a stop on my way to Madurai from Thanjavur. It was an excellent choice. I arrived just past 12:30pm, and the set lunch as about to start. It was one of my best meals in India, and the continue to serve as much as you desire. |I contacted the hotel via e-mail for my reservation (the woman in the dining hall remembered my message). I would recommend a reservation, as the hall quickly filled up with a large group (I and an Indian couple were the other clients that day).|Some might say that it is 'for tourists', but that is what we all were, that day.|Food was good; ambience even better.|Combined with a stop at the Sri Handloom center, made a great day.
Stayed here for one night as part of an Intrepid Travel Tour of South India.|Fascinating to see all the old the mansions in the village in various condition.|Chettinadu Mansion is delightfully restored. Rooms more on the basic side but very comfortable with large bathroom. The set dinner and breakfast both excellent and the staff lovely. A great experience.
The rooms are large and comfortable. The beds and pillows comfortable to sleep on. The shower provides water for a short period of time. There is a bucket and pail to mix and pour water on oneself. ||Staff are friendly and helpful. ||Yes. We had to walk to breakfast or there is a shuttle service. We enjoyed the morning walk short and easy.
The hostel is an old Chettinad Mansion converted into a so-called heritage hotel. The basic things are good, but the heritage is not well maintained. They claim to be a 3 star hotel but the service and the amenities are not upto the mark. They claim to have a swimming pool but it's 500 m from the property and you have to take the keys with you and open it yourself. The staff was friendly and helpful however and guided us to activities around. They give complementary bicycles to roam around the village which was a great experience. Their kitchen orders close at 5 pm which is very weird and you will have a hard time finding dinner later as this is a small village. If you want to experience a heritage hotel don't go here try the other ones.
Chettinad mansion combines old world charm with magical service . We felt completely at home . Mr Gopakumar and his team took good care of us . He helped us chalk out an itinerary for our two day stay and we were able to cover most of Chettinaad. If the management restores it to its former glory , it will definitely be one of the best properties in Chettinaad
An extraordinary old mansion which has been converted into a hotel with some beautiful, quirky original features. The hotel could be very good with a little bit more money and TLC, but currently falls into the "somewhat symbolic" category. Pros of Hotel: The entrance hall and upper Veranda are impressive. Served a lovely dinner and they sell beer, and the rooms are very quirky. Staff friendly. Cons, a little shambolic with frequent power cuts and poor lighting on the very dim stairs. Not up to standard European breakfast, with focus on Indian food only, and the facilities were lacking (no fridge in the room and very old electrical wiring). The mattress was very thin so if you have a bad back, you might suffer (as I did). But as always with travels in India , come with an open mind and enjoy the experience. If you want more Western style comfort, go to Visalam, a CGH Earth Hotel: this is a newer mansion and has been converted to a very high standard and has a swimming pool on site.
