This is a beautiful place! I really enjoyed my stay in this old building. Some of the reviews were mentioning that it is not well looked after but I didn't feel that way. It was clean everywhere I walked, even on the roof top ( Great place for yoga or just enjoying the view) The rooms all have a desk and lounge table. Bed and pillow were hard but I like that.

Broadlands Hotel has a unique old-world charm and a peaceful atmosphere in the heart of Chennai. The rooms are simple and spacious, and the rooftop views are a nice touch. While the common toilet setup may not be for everyone, it's kept fairly clean. The bedsheets could be better, but the overall stay is quite comfortable. The caretakers are attentive, though they do expect tips, which some may find unusual. Still, for travelers looking for a budget-friendly and laid-back stay, this place has its own charm!
The only redeeming feature of this accommodation was the colonial-style courtyard, which had beautiful colors and plenty of plants. The room also had a fan--though that's about where the positives end.||Everything else was an absolute disaster. The mattresses were old and visibly dirty, the sheets had stains, and the floor looked like it was falling apart. There were zero amenities, and the "bathroom" was an outdoor hut--filthy and disgusting. Mosquitoes were everywhere, making it impossible to sleep, and to top it off, the noise was unbearable. Between the nearby mosque's early morning calls and the disturbingly thin walls, I could hear everything from neighboring rooms--snoring, conversations, and even people having sex. Privacy is nonexistent.||The staff was equally unpleasant. They insisted on cash payment despite having a fully functional international card reader. After wasting time searching for an ATM (without success), they finally relented and let me pay by card.||Yes, the price was cheap--but there are far better accommodations for the same amount. This was by far one of the worst places I have ever stayed. Never again.
I stayed in this place some years back and sometimes I still think of it. It's a simple place, but truly majestic in it's beautiful old-world charm. If every hotel had as much character as this, the world would be a better place. At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, I would say it's worth the trip to Chennai alone just to stay here and remember a time before generic white-cube hotel rooms became the norm, and travel was a more mind-expanding experience...
Broad Lands was the perfect place to wrap up my India trip. The building is steeped in character and exuding charm that makes it a memorable stay. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The rooms are simple yet comfortable, offering just what you need for a cozy stay. The real gem is the courtyard--it's a vibrant, peaceful spot with friendly cats roaming around and countless nooks to explore. Whether you want to relax or wander, the space feels like a little sanctuary
This hotel offers a very pleasant ambience that creates a welcoming atmosphere for guests. While the building itself has a historic charm due to its age, the overall experience can vary depending on the room. Some rooms are impeccably maintained and feature modern furnishings, providing a comfortable and stylish stay. However, some rooms need updates and may not meet the same standards. Overall, it's a good choice for travellers, especially those who appreciate a blend of vintage character and contemporary comfort.
This place is very old. It's part of the charm and somewhat of a funky drawback. But I would definitely stay here again. Just know that the rooms are for smokers. So you'll have to get used to the faint smell.
If ever there was a historic hotel desperately in search of a cleaner, then this is it. You could add plumber, electrician and pest-controller if you want to be really picky, but a cleaner would probably be enough to turn this from a close encounter with tropical disease to a relatively pleasant stay. The one redeeming aspect of this hotel is that it is an architectural and historical gem and one can only pray that an enlightened new owner with deep pockets comes and undertakes the remedial action required to turn it into a truly world class destination. Until then, expect the bare minimum in terms of service, cleanliness and safety. It is certainly an experience but not one you will necessarily wish to repeat.
