Summit Oriental Boutique Hotel & Spa

I recently stayed at Hotel Sumitel Oriental Gangtok for three nights, and while the location is excellent, the overall experience left much to be desired. The rooms are small, and the bathrooms are even smaller, making the stay uncomfortable. The lighting inside the room is poor, creating a dull atmosphere. Worse, bright stairwell lights seep into the room, disturbing sleep. The hotel must install dark curtains to fix this issue. Basic amenities are lacking. The hotel does not provide packed drinking water; instead, it offers self-filled bottles that are repeatedly used by different guests, raising concerns about hygiene and purity. We chose not to use them. Additionally, if you order food from Zomato or Swiggy, the hotel refuses to provide plates, which is highly inconvenient, especially since they do not have an Indian restaurant. Hot water for bathing is not available 24/7. It is supplied only at fixed hours which can be inconvenient for guests who need it at other times. One thing that surprised me was that the entire front desk staff leaves after 10 PM, leaving the hotel under the care of a single security guard. This feels like a major lapse in guest service and security. A hotel should always have a responsible staff member available to assist guests, especially at night. There is no full time housekeeping services, I sense this hotel management trying cost cutting in various services. There is no in-house Indian restaurant, there restaurant serves Korian cuisine which is a major drawback. Breakfast is order-based and just average. For a comfortable stay, the hotel must introduce a full-service Indian restaurant. I fell down from the stairs due to loose carpet and got pain in my back, this show carelessness of the front desk staff and I also sense quite rudeness in front desk staff name Lama, they also don't have generator backup when light gone. While the location is excellent, there are several areas where improvements can be made. With some changes, this hotel could offer a much better experience.

I stayed there from 31st Jan to 2nd Jan and booked directly from their website. Pros- 1. Location is amazing. Good restaurants are walkable. 2. Breakfast is good. 3. Services are good. 4. The restaurant below where they serve their breakfast is also very good. You can try Korean dishes and you wont be disappointed. Cons- 1. Hot water is available everyday only from 5am-12pm so if you need to take a shower after that, you best use the electric kettle provided in the room. 2. Rooms are a bit small but it's adequate. It will remind you of Japanese business hotels. In other words, the rooms are "cute". 3. During our stay the water pump was damaged causing us to head out without being able to take a shower. However you might be luckier during your stay and will not face such issues.

The walls and floor of the rooms are not same glossy as the pictures are shown.Rooms are clean but not well maintained. Rooms are spacious. Though it was two bedded room, but easily 3 persons accomodate there. Room service is satisfactory. They provide Tea, coffees, bathing kit and dental kit. No Lift facility is there. Not recommended for Old agaed person.

Pros:|- Excellent location. Bang on MG market . For a tourist, it was very easier and convenient, as it was very easier to get a cab for drop to other spots in Gangtok. |Cons:|- Poor hospitality. Staffs are not even trained about hospitality, especially the reception staffs. |- By checking into hotel, we were informed that hotel uses centralized geyser and hot water is available only from 6AM-12PM and 6PM-12PM. We checked into hotel by 2PM( which is the usual check-in time) and it was very inconvenient.|- Due to occasion of Christmas and New year, hotel was using decoration lights and its connection was taken from one of the lights in our room where we stayed. Because of this issue, one window remained permanently opened. For two days and nights, we had to suffer from severe cold as the window remained open. When we complained to staff on third day, they outrightly refused and informed that won't be able to remove , as this is a decoration light and window will remain open. We had to literally shout at them, then our request was addressed.|- Hotel has no lift. Our room was at 5th floor and every time we had to go climb stairs .|- Property is old and rooms are quite small.

Very comfort stay. Staffs are too good, well behaved, rooms are Clean and well maintained hygiene. I'm a regular customer of summit oriental. Next year also will stay at the same place. Kindly start food services like before, so it will be very easy to stay and get food at the sae place.

First of all, the location of the hotel itself is in a very convenient location adjacent to MG Marg making it one of the most sought after hotels for any visitor. Staff has been very friendly and attended to each and every requirement of mine with lots of patience and professionalism. Complementary breakfast is one of the highlights and Reena BK was stewardess who attended to us every day and I must say you don't want to miss it. Overall a breathtaking experience and will definitely visit the place once again with my wife.

We were there for 3 days and i can say that this is one of the best hotels i have stayed. The staffs are very polite and welcoming. Within a minute they responds to your problems and anything. Best part is this is situated exactly at MG road and rooms are very clean and bathrooms are clean and well maintained too. We will definitely book for the second time also whenever we visit gangtok again.
