Muscatel Grand Silkroute - 300 Mts from MG Marg

I had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Muscatel Grand Silkroute and overall, it was a very nice experience. Friendly and efficient staff. They also help in arranging the sightseeing in and around Gangtok. The room was neatly cleaned and spacious. And the location also perfect, just 5min walking distance away from famous MG Road. The hotel is value for money. I would give rating of 4.5/5.

I am writing this review when I am still in the hotel. The rooms do not match the pictures and on complaining they mention, "Pictures are very old, when the hotel was built, hence doesn't match." The rooms are similar to a cheap shady Oyo hotel." You can smell (as well see) the dampness of the wall. On top of all this, they don't have power backup and we had to spend the entire night without electricity. When we asked them to cancel the booking, they refused upfront and didn't help on giving a proper room. They receptionist were very rude and they made is feel unwelcome from the moment we arrived through facial expressions. The location is ok, but please note you got to walk up and down a hill to reach the main road. Also, the roads do not have bright light and it becomes slippery when it rains so traveling becomes a bit dangerous.

We stayed at Muscatel Grand Silk Route in Gangtok recently and overall, it was an okayish experience. The rooms are quite small -- decent for the price, but definitely not as good as the overall hotel ambience might suggest. The common areas are nicely done, but once you enter the rooms, the impression drops a bit. The location is good, walkable distance from Mall Road. We had a last-minute change in our travel plans as Nathula Pass was closed, and we had to head towards North Sikkim. We had originally booked the hotel for 12-13 April, and again for 16 April. We requested the hotel to shift our 13 April booking to 15 April instead. Despite multiple requests and even though the rooms were vacant, the hotel management was completely unsupportive. Very disappointing, especially because it was a minor adjustment we asked for. Another big negative was the behavior of the lady managing the restaurant by name Marmit. She was extremely rude and made us feel like we were an inconvenience rather than welcomed guests. One very serious concern: the bathroom windows. In the room we stayed in, the bathroom window had a clear peep hole -- outsiders could see inside easily! Thankfully, we noticed it in time and reported it to the reception. One of the staff members Aanchal (the only helpful one during our stay) quickly put up black polythene as a temporary fix. Shockingly, they claimed they hadn't realized this issue before. The manager, Manoj, was also accomodating to our requests and was quite helpful. Overall, it was not the best experience. The property has potential if the management works on their customer service and fixes basic safety and privacy issues. Until then, I would recommend staying here only if you have no better options.

I stay here for 2 nights. Awesome experience at this hotel. Check in at late night very easy. Rooms are enough specious neat and clean with hot water. The best part you can walk for mg marg and gangtok big super mall which is just nearby hotel. Cons is there is narrow road and high hills road so your taxi can drop and pickup only.

The hotel is quite close to MG Marg but steep downhill. If you are thinking to walk it could be a challenge for some. Coming to the rooms. I booked the 3 deluxe rooms. Those rooms having weird smell, damp walls and gloomy lightings. It gives depressing vibes. We booked with complementary breakfast. We were expecting buffet breakfast but came to know we have to order at night from a selection of menu with limited items. In the name of non veg they have only Egg. Can't say the breakfast tastes good. The only thing I found impressive was behaviour of staffs. Extremely helpful and polite. They won the heart. I am pretty sure I will not be staying at this hotel anytime in future.

Excellent stay and well behavior of all staff. Rooms are Excellent but no view.. ambience is very good including strong WiFi facility..

I am writing this review when i m in hotel itself... Pathetic service ever hence not giving any star for the service.. Ex : Requested 2 bottles of water which was provided after 20 minutes after multiple follow ups. Ordered a veg fried rice at 8:30pm for parents who were at the room since we went out to roam and when we came back at 10pm and found out that it was not yet delivered. After enquiry the staff kept blaming each other with silly reasons. Humble request for the guests planning here would to be check in if you don't need any service yet all, no toiletries provided. We also learnt that there is no in charge or manager at the reception after 8pm.

It is close to MG marg , although bit of climbing through steep road n stairs is required . It barely takes 5min walk, rooms were decent and staff was super helpful. We had dinners and breakfast at the hotel. Choices are somewhat limited but food was fresh and good, not too spicy. Will surely visit again.
