Excellent location and friendly, helpful staff. We chose a private room which turned out to be on the top floor with the marvelous view of the bay. The room was Spartan but clean and definitely acceptable. Everything you need was there Including two beds and a private bath. Laundry and many other amenities on site, and the staff was very accommodating with every request. The New World grocery directly across the street has everything you could possibly need. Tons of restaurants and bars nearby, and I highly suggest hitting the nearby coffee shop known as Squirrel for breakfast or light lunch. This is my first experience staying at a Haka House, and I would definitely stay at one again.

Receptionists were amazing! Very accommodating and understanding of our specific requests and made our stay much more enjoyable. Location was exceptional and rooms were very tidy and modern. Will definitely be staying here again. Thanks :)

Staff really nice and helpful. Kitchen is above average. Other guests at the time were mostly big groups or teams but allgood if just need a place to sleep. Can't speak for the other rooms but the the 8bed dorm is a shitshow. Nice bed frames and curtains but incredibly small, hot and stuffy. Not sure if slept or just passed out. I'd expect a lil more considering what you're paying. Went to the Marion afterwards which was same price and 10x better! (+free pancakes on weekends)

It is a hostel and I'm writing this review as someone with realistic expectations. Best hostel I stayed at in NZ I was in a 4 bed female dorm with its own bathroom. The beds had curtains, comfortable mattress and shelves with power points built into the headboard of every bed. The beds were also sturdy and is the only hostel I stayed at in NZ where the entire bunk didn't shake when someone rolled over. If you haven't stayed in a hostel before then do a little bit of research into hostels, so you have realistic expectations and can avoid having a 1 star experience Also if you have a car check if somewhere has parking before booking. It's extremely rare for a hostel in a city to have parking

Staying in a twin room so can't comment on the dorms but our room was fantastic. Clean, modern, closer to a hotel then a hostel. Easy check-in process via touch screen computers. No parking which was an issue with a number of road works happening at the moment taking up the parks outside, however nearby street parking was free after 8pm. New World Supermarket next door.

first time trying stay at the hotel (for 4 nights) as a backpacker in a dormitory room. I found reviews not that good but loved to try once which was amazing ,very convenient near bus stops and shops. The bed also private even if share space ,bathroom and toilet with other backpackers and what is more there are washer and dryer on 6th floor

The woman's dorms are quite poky. There's no place to sit apart from the bed which isn't practical with a top bunk. Hallway noise levels of people coming and going continued to 2.30am. Definitely more of a party hostel than somewhere to sleep. Bathroom was basic and clean, but the provided liquid soap was empty. Thank goodness the window opened as it was very hot and stuffy in such a small space.

Amazing hostel in a great location. The reception team were extremely helpful and friendly. The kitchen facilities were good (although closed between 08.30 and 09.30 when the smaller kitchen was allegedly open but in our experience was cleaned straight after the big one, while the big one was still fenced off). The views from the higher floors were great. Our room was huge (for a hostel), the bed comfortable and beautifully clean and homely.
