I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you're a masochist. I was surprised when I entered the 'hotel' room that the TV didn't turn on with Jigsaw asking me if I'd "like to play a game". The only saving grace for the Aura is that the beds were comfortable - and possibly the only thing actually cleaned. Other than mysterous stains all over the the surfaces and caked grime in all corners of the room, we found a bonus pair of someone's dirty slippers under the bed (along with more dust, grime and a can of deodorant). Ventilation was poor with no windows and one very small and noisy vent for 'fresh' air. The QR code on the TV didn't work leaving little entertainment available. The ensuite bathroom had no ventilation and a shower that didn't drain properly ensuring your feet were soaking the entire time. The light bulbs had been stolen from the lamps ensuring the only ambient lighting available was from the bathroom cell-block attached to the side of the room. I've learnt my lesson to read all reviews before staying anywhere as the photos of the Aura were incredibly misleading. We booked for the convenient location in Wellington but honestly it felt like maybe we condemned ourselves to the first layer of Hell instead. Do yourself a favour if you're planning a last-minute trip to Wellington just spend the extra $100 to stay somewhere else.

This hotel needs an exorcist to come in and do some deep cleaning. As others have said, this place has NO AURA. My soul left my body the moment I stepped up to the front counter, which had a kicked hole in it--strange, I thought. How did we end up here? I let my partner book the trip without reading the reviews, and the warnings were sincere. Please, DO NOT stay here. It's not worth the cheap price or the location. The photos online do not accurately represent the neglect and lack of life that this space actually has--it's complete fiction. The plants look like hostage victims--I'm not even a plant person, but I could feel them screaming for help. The absence of windows and proper ventilation created a bubble of filth that was utterly suffocating. I genuinely felt like I was stepping into a bad trip. I have never seen so much dust in my life. If you're looking to shoot a dark art house horror film, though, this hotel would be the perfect backdrop--this is the only positive note I can add. The visceral response I had was significant, and I felt such relief reading the reviews afterward; I have never had such a strong reaction to a space, ever. I now understand the kicked hole at the front. NO REFUNDS. What I'm left with is not anger but a heightened awareness of how neglect and a lack of care can create such a negative atmosphere. It's quite sad; this place needs some love put into it. This hotel needs to be investigated. Someone, please contact health and safety, and DO NOT STAY HERE.

Absolutely disgusting. If I could rate less than one star I would. We arrive in wellington and don't get told by aura hotel that we will need to pay $32 at Wilson's parking. So we park at Wilson's and have to haul all our luggage through the cbd. We finally arrive to the room and go to have a shower and there was no hot water at all. We then go to use the toilet and it's disgusting. We go to make a coffee and inside the jug was rusted there was flaoting bits of rust at the bottom. The heater didn't work, the sink when filled couldn't be drained out. It was absolutely terrible. The duty manager comes over and we ask for a refund, he says he will change our room and give is a superior room. We then go to the "superior" room and there was still no hot water and probably worse then the initial room. We asked for a refund and he kept saying to do it through booking . Com and I advised that we needed the refund on the spot to get another place for the night to sleep. He was adamant to not give the refund. We ended up getting the refund only because we were raising our voices and he didn't want others to hear our complaints. This place was absolutely foul!

Apart from a small hiccup at check in which was resolved thanks to staff, I had no issue here. The bed was comfy, the linen was clean, the room was clean. I had towels and toiletries provided. I got a room with a private bathroom which had good pressure on the shower head and there were ample toilet rolls for my 3 night stay. Being right in the middle of Cuba St and Courtenay pl was great. Saved a bunch on Ubers. I can't speak to the experience of others, but I had no noticeable noise, didn't hear any neighbours, it is budget accommodation, best suited to short stays, but I'd stay there again.

Tried to book a room over the phone, once speaking to this lady she had no resolve over where to park as they specifically advertise that there is parking available on booking.com. She provided no resolve, no help and hung up. And had cancelled the booking straight after this call. She was rude and talking in a disrespectful manner. Management or owners need to revise their staff and training needs as this is disgusting behaviour. She definitely should not be working here.

Get what you paid for basically. Room has no windows and no mirrors to be found anywhere. Only 1 plate, bowl and cutlery set in the room and were not clean. Hardly any dish soap and ran out of toilet paper pretty quickly with the shared bathroom always being a mess. Showers are too short and water goes everywhere. More like a backpackers than a hotel. Location is great though, the lifts are a little dodgy and it's right on top of some shops and a youth centre on the same floor as the rooms. Building is confusing to get around.

Good: Relatively Cheap central location Free wifi powerful shower TV on the wall Bad: Tv on the wall didn't work (no signal). Bathroom walls and toilet needed a good clean, not great. No windows limited soundproofing ( but not excessively noisy either). Commercial Air con noise through the night as some free white noise... not too bad if you don't mind that Cosmetic touch ups needed, unfinished painting/repairs etc. If all you need is a place to sleep for the night, this was adequate and convenient. If you want a more homely or personal place, I wouldn't recommend this place.

Not as bad as the low star reviews. Negatives would be the bedspread was due for a wash. A couple mystery spots of something. Other than that, the room was clean and tidy. No windows, no mirror in room. Lucky I had a make up mirror. I had late check in instructions emailed to me. At the bottom was an emergency number incase of an issue. I couldn't find my room, called, went to message bank. Around 10pm. Eventually I found it with help from a kind couple. I couldn't get the tv going the next day, they came quickly to fix it. Overall, pretty happy. 3 stars.
