Tourist Lodge Chaltlang

I recently had the chance to visit the Tourist Lodge in Chaltlang, Aizawl, when my friend was staying there, and I was thoroughly impressed. The lodge is run by the state government and is very well-maintained. They offer both individual rooms and dormitories at reasonable prices, making it a great option for various types of travelers. I had dinner there, and the food was of good quality, which added to the pleasant experience. The ambience is calm and quiet, perfect for those looking to relax. The location is also very convenient, with good accessibility to nearby areas, and they even provide taxi arrangements. The staff were polite and efficient in their service, making sure everything was handled well. One important thing to note is that you must book online before arriving, but it's a smooth process, and there are plenty of rooms available. Overall, it's a great place to stay in Aizawl!

I stayed at Chaltlang Tourist Lodge during my first visit to Aizawl, Mizoram, in late March 2025, and overall, it was a pleasant experience with a few important observations that future tourists might find helpful.||We were lodged in rooms 321 and 322 in the newly built block -- both spacious, well-decorated, and offering balconies with a stunning panoramic view of the hills and cityscape. The bathrooms were modern and well-equipped, with hot and cold water running in all taps and showers. We did face a minor maintenance issue, which was addressed the following day.||Coming from a metro city, I did experience a bit of cultural shock in terms of hospitality. The environment is peaceful and relaxed, but as a tourist, I noticed a lack of proactive service and professionalism. Although staff were contacted during their working hours, it seemed that nobody prefers to work beyond 5 PM -- something that might take first-time visitors by surprise. This laid-back approach can sometimes clash with the expectations of tourists accustomed to more responsive hospitality services.||The facilities for the price are quite good, but the management needs to be more tourist-centric. The kitchen and dining experience are the biggest concerns. The kitchen closes at 9 PM, which is fine, but last order at 7:30 PM is really early. If you're late, they offer the food in hot cases, and any special request post-8:30 PM is declined. Even hill stations across India offer more flexibility. Also, you cannot interact with the cook directly, which feels impersonal. Orders have to be made through reception or via phone and there's no dining in the dining hall. It's pretty much non functional.||The cook/chef's attitude left much to be desired. Instead of welcoming multiple orders, we were made to feel as though we were burdening him. Small requests like adding cucumber or lemon to salads had to be specifically asked for -- which again shows a lack of attention to detail. His behaviour didn't seem much professional.||That said, a few staff members stood out -- especially Mary at the reception and Anish from housekeeping, who were helpful and courteous.||There's no elevator, so reaching upper floors might be tough for elderly or differently-abled guests. Rooms are non-smoking, but balconies can be used for that. Also, due to Mizoram's liquor laws, no ice or liquor service is available.||Overall, the lodge is clean, peaceful, and worth staying at -- especially if you're here to relax and soak in the scenery. But the kitchen needs serious attention, and the overall service culture has to evolve to cater to tourists from across India and beyond. I hope the Tourism Department takes note, as this property has a lot of potential to shine.

Aizawl Tourist Lodge - Comfortable Stay with a View - Family-friendly stay with spacious rooms. - Great location - just a 15-minute walk to the market & cafes, and departmental stores within 5 minutes. - Easy bike autos available from market area to lodge - Rooms come with a balcony - could be cleaner. - Clean washrooms, but in some, the hot water flow was low. - Convenient water filters in corridors for refilling bottles. Food options - both veg & non-veg available * Simple yet tasty Indian food * Dinner - dal, aloo sabzi, rice, roti, and vegetables * Breakfast - eggs, puri bhaji, aloo & paneer parathas * Evening snacks - tea, coffee, & pakoras. * Quick service - breakfast was served fast in room Overall, a comfortable place to stay with good food and easy access to nearby areas.

Spend 3 days and 3 nights, wholesome experience. Being on top of hills, fresh air away from traffic life early in the morning is another level. Having mutual respect was the best.

This property is big with large capacities, parking space and it is pretty. Rooms are spacious. But not maintained well. Service is minimalistic. They discourage eating in Dining hall. Room service is fast. Rent and food prices are quite cheap. Definitely value for money.

Best nest. Just a little bit away from the main city Aizwal. Best tourist lodge with 3star hotel facility. Double bed room- 1000 / day for 2 person. Foods are now delicious. Phone network sometime not work. I request all to visit here may last or June first week. Intercom facility. Bath essential provides. Must carry mosquito implements. Staffs are very good. Everything is okay, except their dishes. None of the cuisines and curries they serve taste good. They were below average. I tried paneer and puri bhaji which are both terrible.
