OYO 49408 Hotel Surya

Accommodation choices in Datia are limited, with a couple of centrally located hotels, and several on the outskirts. We wanted to visit the Jain temples at Sonagiri, so had the choice of either travelling from Gwalior or Datia, the latter being closer. We made a reservation and paid in advance through a well-known on-line booking agency to stay 2 nights at the Hotel Prakshi Palace. On arrival, we found that a third party had cancelled the booking, no refund was provided, and the hotel was fully booked, this being Wedding Season. Who cares about a couple of foreign tourists when you can fill the hotel with wedding guests? The manager did his best, and relocated us, provided we pay in cash, at the Hotel Surya. ||||If you have stayed in an Indian hotel not geared up to tourists, you will know what to expect. So, what are the positives?||||* the tariff is modest||* room very clean||* good size room||* comfortable bed, and 2 sofas||* table and desk||* reliable a/c||* excellent hot water, but need to remember to turn on both the left and right taps, as well as wall switch||The not-so-good:||* broken toilet seat||* minor leak from overhead hot-water tank splashed onto toilet, ||* the floor and much else gets very wet after using the shower||* hotel can get very noisy at night, and no attempt was made to ensure this stopped so that guests might sleep||||Just what do all those young men in the foyer do all day? There weren't many guests to check in during our 2 night stay. We didn't sample any melas here, instead eating in the restaurant at the Prakshi

Service is little ok. Food is ok. No other facilities. Staff has no sense. There is terace in front of rooms. Vantilation is good. Parking space is ok. There are 5 flags like 5 star hotel. But its not.

My experience over here was too good and fully satisfied. The area, space, comfort, rooms, services, view... Everything this.. We loved it... One of the beautiful part of our trip to stay here....

Just an average hotel with good facilities but services are just not upto the mark. Need maintenance. Nice people but lack of professionalism. A good decent hotel for one night stay. But nothing for an occasion.
