Hope Hostels, Varkala - Helipad

Had an amazing stay at this hostel! The staff was incredibly friendly and always ready to help, making me feel right at home. The atmosphere was perfect for meeting fellow travelers--great vibes, fun conversations, and a super chill common area to hang out. Plus, the location is unbeatable--just a short walk from Varkala Beach and the cliff, making it easy to explore and enjoy the stunning views. I had a really nice time here and would definitely come back.

I'd like to share my experience during my recent stay at your hotel, which left me quite disappointed. My friend and I had booked a dome (shared room), where one guy and two girls were already staying. After many stressful days, we just wanted to relax and enjoy our trip. So, we went to a nearby bar, had a couple of beers, and came back to the room quietly without disturbing anyone. Later, the other group requested a room change, and the hotel accommodated them. That's completely their choice, and we respected it. But soon after, the receptionist came to us and said, "Why did you drink and spoil our business?" -- that was truly uncalled for. What makes this worse is that, as per hotel policy, drinking is not allowed inside the restaurant or activity area, yet we saw many people openly drinking beer there without any issue (If you want check CCTV). Still, the staff allowed them and didn't say anything -- but we were targeted for simply drinking outside and quietly resting in our room. It honestly felt like we were being judged based on our slang or skin color or appearance, which is very disheartening. Let me make this clear: my intention is not to write negative reviews or spoil anyone's business. I'm only sharing this because every guest should be treated equally and professionally. We didn't break any rules or cause any disturbance, yet our day was completely ruined due to unfair treatment. I hope the management reflects on this and ensures respectful and unbiased behavior toward all guests in the future.

I had an amazing experience with Hope's hostel. The managers were friendly and made us welcoming and took a great care. It was my birthday on the second day we spent in hope's. We cooked fish curry with fresh fish with the help of Salmaan, manager in hope. Authentic Kerala style fish curry. Had an amazing experience. Loved the view as it is in the cliff and also it was very clean. And safe too. Would really recommend for someone who's reading this.

Thank you for a safe and secure stay, one of the number 1 priorities while in India. Could have done with staff speaking better English and rooms being swept from sand more vigorously. Appreciated no meat served at the bar which is what I expect from India. Delicious fruit juice.

Edit : To reply your comment below: I am not complaining anything about not allowing my guest to use common area. I understand that policy. My complain is for period of my stay and against hospitality Original post below: Only location is good about this hostel. Receptionist and manager are very sad. They don't even care about guest. Different treatment for Different ethnicity and gender. I stayed for a week here and was saved only because I met some good solo travelers. There is zero effort from manager on anything. He is just smoking cigarettes and roaming around property. The table in common area was filled with empty beers bottles and empty snack packets at night when I went to sit there. When I asked manager to clean it up because we wanted to use table, he laughed and went inside. Such horrible experience. A good manager can make this property most happening thing about cliff. If the owner is reading this review : please change the manager. Other staff are good and lady running the small cafe inside is very good and humble.

While the price was very much affordable and the location was good, The room that was alloted to us has no proper air flow The behaviour of the staff was very polite. Could have been a better experience, but regardless...it was fine. Also for the 10 - share dorm, they only have one washroom There is a common washroom available though.

My standard non-air-conditioned room was satisfactory; however, the overall experience fell short of expectations. The common areas exhibited significant deferred maintenance, appearing outdated, rusty, and unclean. A faulty geyser presented an electrical hazard via the tap. The building's age was evident, with issues including overflowing gutters, a noisy fan, loose electrical sockets, and insufficient lighting throughout. The property's location was its sole redeeming quality.

I usually refrain from giving negative reviews. But here I go... Such an arrogant host, really pathetic service, most horrible experience of Varkala. Zero hospitality at all. Stay away from this hostel. Much better options are available than this. This guy confirmed a day before for early check in, I planned my travel according to that, upon reaching this guy denies about the msg, says the msg was about something else. When confronted on this, he repeated the same thing of late check in like a parrot. Talked to fellow travelers stranded, there all waiting for their rooms to be ready in this heat. In return to this review I'll just get a msg from admin saying how extremely sorry they are and this won't happen again.
