Design Ashram

Easily one of the best places I have stayed at in the country. It's such a vibe and an experience. I was here for a week. And I spent the first three nights at the mixed dorm space, moving to the room on the fourth day. It was my very first time sharing a dorm with strangers (as a traveller). Pleasantly surprised by how non-fussy, neat and non-intrusive much of this experience was. The room on the first floor is absolutely worth every penny, especially if you like old homes. It's also a great space to work out of in peace and quiet. Another nice place here that i worked out of was the seating area in the open courtyard. Pleasant, mostly airy, and also the spot to people-watch (a lot of save the date shoots happen in the courtyard). The place also has Open Mic Wednesdays; it was a music event the Wednesday i was there and it was excellent. I also attended an art workshop on the Sunday of my stay. The location on Gujarati Street adds to the charm of the stay. The beach is barely 150m away; you have to walk another 300m to reach the entry to the public promenade by the sea. I highly recommend this stay

Beautiful place close to the beach. The ambience and architecture is amazing. The Gujarati street, the old building construction along with careful renovation has given it the charm of a place. There are backpackers dormitory and the quality is maintained with good service and hospitality. The library and the exhibitions here are quite good. I came here during the Kerala Literature festival and really enjoyed the stay.

A calm and beautiful space. Its a very close to Kozhikode beach. The staffs were friendly and helpful.There is a common kitchen with induction cooker and basic utensils.Water filter is there and boiled drinking water was kept aside every morning. As I went with my mother these things really helped. Room was spacious.Also we loved the common space courtyard.Its beautiful

What a wonderful place to stay at! The location is perfect - there are some good restaurants and cafes within walking distance, everything is spotlessly clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Also there are cultural events and exhibitions you can attend.

Great place to stay at. Located quite close to the beach and especially next to the famous Kuttichira biriyani place! The space has a quaint charm and the host (Sherbas) is quite helpful and their caretaker Arjun is also very sweet. And you get to meet a lot of great people here.

The Best dormitory you can ever have in Calicut. The place feels like a home. All the employees and the manager are really good and helpful. The place is filled with greenery and the rooms are perfect, clean throughout, smells nice. The bathrooms are excellent. Every Wednesday, there will be a concert from 7pm to 9pm within the common area. It is 200 meters away from the Kozhikode Beach. Tea and Coffee are complimentary in this stay. Overall excellent, if you ever come to Calicut and you need to stay near Calicut Beach, you should be staying here, if you are coming solo, couple, family, work, etc. whatever it is, you will be welcomed warmly.

Such an amazing place to stay, you can't even imagine how calm and welcoming this place is, literally felt like home. This is a different kind of a hostel, not the typical vibe I would say, but it was so easy to make friends. Close to everything, clean, helpful staff, and they also organize events on weekends and not only. Except for the delicious food, not sure if there are other reasons to visit Kozhikode tbh, but definitely Design Ashram should be one of them. It was my last stop of my India trip, the best thing that has happened to me, can't recommend this place enough Ah and also they have this policy that you should book one night in advance, but if you are a last minute kind of person and you see the place sold out on Booking, contact them through WhatsApp
