Gingerhill Nest

I was at Ginger Hill Nest for a day and a half. It was perhaps the pleasantest time I've had in a while. The graciousness of the hosts, Mr Thomas and Lally Thomas, the nicely appointed room, the excellent food, all cooked with ingredients from the plantation, including the coffee - all these made the stay memorable. I sat all day, staring at the hills and the water and managed to finish reading a novel - something I've not done in a while. A holiday for both body and soul.

We had a wonderful 2 days stay at Gingerhill Nest. Tommy and Laly were extremely thoughtful and considerate hosts. Our room was clean, very comfortable and with alot of the little extra things that make travel easier. The outlook is lovely - it is very easy to sit on the balcony and enjoy the great view. Tommy gave us great tours of not only the property but other interesting things such as the coconut factory. Laly totally spoiled us with her cooking - wonderful flavours and variety, with much of it sourced from the estate - every meal seemed a feast! Sharing the food with them was full of fun. We also really appreciated their care and consideration of our driver. Our stay with Laly and Tommy was a highlight of our trip and we would highly recommend their homestay.

This was our third visit to Gingerhill Nst and, once again, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Tommy and Laly are excellent hosts who go out of their way to ensure their guests have a good time. Meals, which are excellent are taken with the hosts in the family dining room. The accommodation is very comfortable with a beautiful view down to the reservoir and up to the mountains on the other side. Tommy will show you around the estate and explain its workings. He is very knowledgeable about farming in Kerala and we learned a lot from him. It is possible to walk down to the local village and church and up the valley side above Gingerhill where you have wonderful views over the reservoir and dam. The estate is about an hour's drive from Palakkad which is on the railway line from both N and S Kerala to Coimbatoire and Tamil Nadu. We highly recommend this homestay.

Wish I cold give 10 Stars!!! If you really want to experience the true Kerala culture, its people and its cuisine, then Gingerhill Nest is your ONE answer! ||The plantation is on a beautiful hill overlooking a reservoir with beautiful gardens full of flowers and spices surrounding it. The owners, Thomas and Laly are one of the BEST COUPLE I have ever met in my life...I LOVED THEM ! They will make you feel welcome and at home the moment you arrive. The rooms are clean and nice with all basic amenities. ||Laly is by far the BEST COOK ever and prepares outstanding Authentic Kerala food on Wood fire and in Earthen Pots even in this age of fast food which takes her food to next level of deliciousness...We ate till we could not even stand up ;) Despite some language barriers, we could talk and share recipes and laugh with each other which was amazing!||They were also super nice to our driver which spoke volumes about them!||I can write 100 pages review only on K T Thomas :) He is not only the BEST HOST but also extremely knowledgeable about everything making conversations super interesting and meal times fun! He showed us around the plantation and explained a lot about various spices.||Please don't forget to taste some fresh TODDY while there :)||Thomas also arranged for us to visit a Coconut Oil factory which was very interesting.||THANK YOU LALY and THOMAS for making our Kerala trip memorable...We will be back and we are going to recommend your Beautiful Gingerhill Nest to the whole world !!||PS- Please keep at least TWO days to really soak in the beauty of this place and to enjoy Laly's food :)

The homestay is quite remote, but the benefit is the nature and peace that you find here. Its set in a small plantation with a mixture of fruits and spices that your host will show you round and explain. You can walk around the surroundings, visit the nearby reservoir and spot the many birds that live round there. The views over the valley extend to the steep hills of the Ghats.||||You get a nice welcome from Tommy and Laly, and remain part of the family throughout your stay. Laly produces local food, with many items from the farm. Tommy is very sociable and will help with any information that you ask about.||||Whilst staying there, I accidently left some warm clothing in the room, and did not realise until reaching Ootty. Tommy very kindly agreed to put them in a parcel and send them to a hotel where I would be staying later, and it was a great relieve to recover them.

The owners, Laly and Tom Tomas are lovely people. The house and garden are very beautiful, the place like heaven. The food is traditional and wonderful. Interesting conversation together. Thomas help us to organize trips in the area of the house and in silent valley. We really enjoyed staying at Gingerhillnest.

After several tiring hours of road coming from Munnar (with our slow driver ;)), what a relief to arrive at Tommy and Laly guest house! We immediately felt at home, ||Laly had prepared delicious meals and breakfast (again... you should open a restaurant! :D). All was perfect during our 1 night stay but we should have stayed at least 2 nights to enjoy the setting, the quietude and beauty of the nature and the plantations. We really enjoyed the visit of the coconut oil factory too!||Thanks again Tommy and Laly and don't change anything. We hope to see you again.||Take care!||Raphaelle.

I had a fantastic stay at Gingerhill nest. The warm welcome of the hosts made me really feel at home. The location is fantastic and the view from the balcony is unbeatable. Authentic home made Kerala food for breakfast and dinner with organic farmed products. I would recommend Gingerhill Nest wholeheartedly to anyone wanting to get the best out of their trip to Pallakkad. It's a place to treasure.
