Periyar Riverview Homestay

I had a pleasant time at Periyar Riverview Homestay, and I'm surprised it's not a popular stop to stay for anyone visiting Okkal or the nearby Kalady. The 2 cottages are located bang next to the river, although river access is from outside the property (at your own risk). Beautiful property and I believe the owner stays in the house adjacent to the cottages. Arun helped me with breakfast and informed me about the limited options. No complaints there although would've preferred a way to get better BF with tea/coffee at extra cost. Getting a rick or an Uber from the property was a bit of a challenge. And it's about 2 kms from the main road. Still 4 stars out of 5.

I stayed for 3 months at Periyar Homestay working on a writing project,and found it hard to leave! It was the perfect location - a beautiful riverside cottage set in a secluded private garden filled with trees and flowering shrubs. The balcony looks out over the river and on to the forested far bank. Perfect for morning coffee and evening sunsets! The only river traffic is the silent wooden canoes of the local fishermen. The cottage is spotlessly clean with all amenities, including housekeeping; and the family, plus Arun, the manager are warm and hospitable, as well as being very helpful in every way. (They even provided me with an extra ||office desk when they realized I was working on a writing project, which was great). ||Amma, the owner's mother, is a lovely person and makes a delicious home-cooked Kerala breakfast! The location is very private and quiet, despite being close to the airport. Transport to and from the airport is provided. The location is just over an hour from Kochi and within easy travel distance of multiple natural tourist attractions of Kerala - a stunningly beautiful state. Highly recommended for short or long stays!

My family stayed for a night at the resort on our way to Munnar. The resort's location close to the Cochin airport and beside the Periyar river was the main reason for selecting it. ||||Arun had been coordinating with me well before our arrival in Kochi and ensured that our stay was perfect despite the heavy rains in the city. He was there to pick us up at the airport, helped us settled down in the two cottages and, along with his young assistant, ensured that all our needs were attended to. He even arranged a cab for us for the next few days and graciously dropped us off to Munnar when the cab driver couldn't come over from the hill station, presumably because of the heavy rainfall. ||||This stay in Kerala and my past visits to the state have made me fall in love with the high standards of hospitality, but the service at Periyar Riverview Homestay went even beyond that. ||||The cottages, overlooking the river, were cozy and had all the necessary amenities to make our short stay comfortable. This is a home-stay and not a full-fledged hotel, so it is advisable to calibrate your expectations accordingly. For instance, the food options are limited (which was clearly informed before hand). The home-cooked breakfast was yummy, but for dinner (and lunch), you will have to order from outside. The food from this restaurant is just about okay, so you might want to get something packed on the way from the airport. The rooms have a homely feel and worked fine for our short stay. The approach to the resort from the main road is through several twists and turns on narrow roads, so a requesting a pick-up is recommended. ||||But, any issues I might bring up would be just nit-picking. The resort provides great value for money, and is ideal if you are traveling from Cochin airport to Munnar as you are saved a ride into Kochi. And the friendly service was the perfect beginning to our Kerala trip and set the tone for a wonderful stay in the state.

We just stayed here for a couple of nights after flying into Kochi International airport. We chose it because it's proximity to the airport, late night arrival pick-up service, and potential quietness. We weren't disappointed! |Very pleasant homestay with lovely hosts and staff. Also a special view across the river and easy strolling around a friendly neighbourhood. The inclusive breakfasts were great! Although it felt a little remote from eateries, we were able to arrange delivery of a great evening meal - this needs the assistance of the owners however.|Just like the photos, our room was spacious and clean with attached kitchenette and ensuite.|The manager also arranged a taxi to our second destination in Alleppey.

Certainly a good and comfortable stay, decent arrangement for breakfast, great coffee! Lunch, dinner will be arranged from outside if you request. There are 2 rooms(homes) in all, well maintained. There is one staff person who helps out for all your needs. Slightly far from the town center, you will feel more comfortable with a cab/vehicle arranged to take you in and out from this place. Nice river view, peaceful and lots of plants, flowers and trees within and around the property to enjoy.

After missing our flights, therefore our 1 night stay at this beautiful homestay with a river view, air conditioning and warm showers, Arun adjusted cheerfully to greet us at the airport. He offered us showers, breakfast and a short rest before driving us 4.5 hours on the twisty roads to the uplands of Kumily. He made us feel very confident & comfortable with his skilled driving and answered our tourist type questions with local knowledge, even selecting a good lunch spot for us along the way. Highly recommend!

I stayed here with my family for a night and I simply like the place. The home stay is located around 7 KM from airport and nice place to stay if your outward journey is towards Munnar or Alleppey etc. This place is far from Kochi city and beach, and there is also no traffic problem. ||They have two guest room which are river front cottages with nice view from balcony. Bathroom and rooms are clean and provided with clean and comfortable bed/linen. ||They have a small refrigerator, tea and tea kettle and a small kitchen with sink which makes this place perfect even for longer stay.||||The breakfast is basic Kerala style e.g.rice Idli and vegetable stew.||Customer service is excellent and they ensure that their guest reaches the properly without any hassle. A free airport pickup by a car is also available on request. ||When I reached airport, received a call from property manager to tell me that my pickup is waiting. I received another call after sometime to ensure that I have boarded the cab and on my way,...excellent customer centric approach.||||Overall excellent value for money.

Really a lovely hospitality experience. Stayed a night to receive a friend a Kochi. Set in a residential compound with neat suite overlooking the river. Watch the sun set and chill. The ownwr was very helpful in guidance, arranging a taxi as well as ensuring allwas well.Had a fab home cooked breakfast. Will want to go back to spend another day. Dinner has to be ordered from a caterer, but the service was quick and the food good to boot.
