||Hello everyone: Been gone for week to visit some relatives of mine. Some fine owners of the Arakal Heritage Website. I stayed in a beautiful place called the "Elephant room" It truly was amazing! The room over looks a nice sandy beach area with Palm trees and hammocks and a cool breeze comes in and is the perfect place to chill, pray, meditate & unwind. In the evening and morning I would hang out with Abi & Mini and would see their son Tom (Ooni) out and about taking care of business before he would take off to Bangalore. If ever your in Kerala go to Alleppey Beach. They will make sure your stay is a pleasant one and will take you around the area. People who stay their fill out a log book regarding their stay and I can vouch for the fact that it was the perfect getaway for me. The fisherman bring in the fresh catch of the day and Mini's Prawn Biriyani is "Other Worldly"
Awesome homestay, slightly away from the crowd of Marari Beach. Rooms are surrounded by a fantastic and tidy garden. There's direct access to the beach. But the special thing is the family running the place: so warm and welcoming. The food was also amazing, both fish-based dinner and an awesome breakfast with appam, freshly squeezed coconut milk and bananas!
Are you a person who loves personal space and a homely environment with the best South Indian food being served on your table in a homely feel, Arakal heritage is the best place you can get it all just in one go. Stayed for 3 days and dint feel like waving a goodbye to the best place I have ever stayed so far. A must visit place for everyone who likes to vent back into the good old times being close and in love with nature.
We spent 2 nights here. The welcome we got from Mini, Tom, Davis and Ari was phenomenal. We had the most amazing food - and the most interesting / diverse of our Kerala trip. We had a cooking class and learnt to make a prawn curry. And then ate it. Our boy hacked open coconuts under the watchful eye of Mini and helpers. |The rooms were very charming, with largely authentic furniture. Our hosts arranged a successful boat trip for us and took our kids to visit some of their family members. A great cultural experience for them.
It's a wonderful place tucked away on the secluded Marari beach. I loved the evening bike rides experiencing the lovely and clean local country side. ||The hosts Abi and Mini are lovely people. I'd recommend this place for long stays so that you can immerse yourself in the local countryside. In long stays you will never feel away from home, as Abi, Mini and care taker Clement will make you part of their family
We visited Arakal Heritage for a fabulous lunch with the owners, Abi and Mini. The food was fantastic, with a wide range of around eight home cooked dishes.||Mini kindly helped me to put on my newly bought first ever sari in her beautiful, historic accommodation. Her warm and friendly welcome, and that of her husband Abi, made me immediately feel like old friends.||
This homestay is a really welcoming and relaxing place to spend a holiday. Aby, Mini and Davis opened their home and their hearts to us from the very first moment and we quickly felt as though we had a home in Kerala. ||||The beach hut is quaint and very comfortable. The air conditioning is extremely efficient and the shower room, with its open ceiling, is like a sort of 21st century Tarzan film set: a stone floor, lush plants (painted) on the wall and the bright blue sky overhead.||||Outside, the most stressful decision of the day is to choose which of the four or five hammocks to lie in and when weary of that, we just strolled across the stream and took a dip in the ocean. ||||When we didn't fancy the stroll to the beach or the waves, we took a dip in the new pool with its fountain and seating area where we could stay cool even in the hottest part of the day. ||||The surroundings are perfect but more important is the privilege of being part of the family. It is like having an extra set of parents or favourite aunty and uncle who know the area and are ready to step in to advise when required. Mini took us to find the right shops to buy silk and gifts, avoiding the tourist traps, and she and Aby were able to tell us the fair rates for tuk-tuks and other things.||||The very best thing, though, was the mealtimes. Mini provided huge platefuls of rice, curry, chapati, salads, fried fish, and fresh, ripe, sweet fruit. More importantly, we ate with the family and they explained to us how India works, introduced us to other family members and showed us how to eat our meals with our hands like proper Indians. ||||In addition to becoming no a fabulous cook, Mini gives a perfect facial. Forget the fluffy towels, whale music and corporate politeness of English spas. This is more like the bit in Mama Mia when Donna prepares Sophie for the wedding. You feel pampered like a child and afterwards your skin feels fresh and clear , soft and smooth. ||||When we left at four in the morning, Mini and Aby got up to say goodbye and we parted from them with great affection. If you have the chance to go to Kerala and you want to learn more about the people of Kerala and to make friends, you cannot do better than Arakal Heritage. We hope to go back there very soon.
