We had a fantastic stay at Udupi Heritage In, a charming heritage hotel that beautifully blends old-world charm with cleanliness and comfort. The ambiance had a lovely vintage feel, adding to the overall experience. The staff was incredibly hospitable, especially Mahesh, the manager, who went out of his way to assist us. We had mistakenly booked a room for the wrong date, but he helped us reschedule without any hassle. His kindness and professionalism truly made a difference. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and we highly recommend Udupi Heritage In to anyone visiting the area!

WE LOVED THE PLACE If you are travelling to Udupi and you want to experience a lovely stay in a quiet and peaceful neighbourhood then Udupi Heritage Inn is your place. This is a home converted into a handful of cosy rooms that is a blend of traditional and modern style - ensure you book in advance of your stay. This is a room only concept which means you don't get food. This gives people an opportunity to explore the local cuisine. We found some great restaurants and local shops at walking distance. You have a lovely caretaker and his family who resides here who are very helpful and are no nonsense. This place is suitable for families.
This is a heritage bungalow converted into a 5 bedroom Inn. There is a commonly shared well equipped kitchen. Rooms are a bit smaller than Hotel rooms. Luggage rack is missing in rooms. Wardrobe is tiny. The Inn is maintained very clean. There is ample car parking. The only care taker is very polite and works quite hard to maintain the place. He manages reception, does housekeeping and maintains garden all by himself. Location of the Inn is very convenient for guests who travel by own vehicles (or cabs). Water pressure in toilets need to be improved by raising the overhead tank height.
We stayed at Udupi Heritge Inn for three nights. The first impression of the building from the outside was that it was beautiful. However, this was soon to change. The staff didn't really make us feel welcome; did not greet us or tell us anything about the place. We brushed it off as them being shy, and didn't pay it any mind. The house on the inside, sadly, was quite stuffy, and there was a strange smell in the corridor, whose source we would find later. The rooms themselves were very small; which again, we didn't really mind. However, a lot of elements (like the cupboard, wall posters, bathroom doors) were very cheap and flimsy, and this was emphasised by the contrast with the solid structure of the rest of the property. This made me lament the missed potential of the place, because the building has very good bones and solid wood fittings. The first night there, we realised there was something running around in the ceiling (there is a false ceiling in the smaller rooms, unfortunately fully covering the beautiful wooden beams of the gabled roof). We first thought them to be pigeons, but soon realised there were either mongooses, bandicoots and large rats, because of the heavy bangs and jumping we could hear all through the night (some of which even made the fan shake). I have attached a video for proof. The next morning, we found small droppings of whatever rodent they were all along the corridor. We realised that this was also the cause of the strange smell. When we told the caretaker about this, he seemed like he was hearing about it for the first time, but the sounds were too loud and disruptive for him to not have known already. On our second night at the hotel, we wanted to ask for turn-down service but the caretaker was nowhere to be found. When I telephoned him, he asked me to leave my key in the door lock and he would get it done. When we got back to the hotel at night (a good 5 hours later), we asked for the key back and the caretaker said he had left it in the lock. We found this to be a lapse in security, because the gates and main doorway are always open with no one guarding the place or manning the check-in desk. This effectively meant that anyone could have walked in off the street and entered our room. The room itself was passably clean, although the walls and bedding had seen better days. The bathroom was clean as well, but there was no wet/dry separation. Coming to the location, this made up for a lot of our disappointment in the building. It is very centrally located, and important spots in the city can be reached on foot if you can ignore the heat and traffic. I won't say we had a terrible stay; but so much can be very easily improved, because the building itself is stunningly beautiful. I hope this feedback is taken to heart and Udupi Heritage Inn is able to reach its full potential.
Location is nearby to bus stand. Rooms can be maintained still more better. Washrooms are clean. They should atleast provide free breakfast for the amount they charge. Care taker should be more informative about the place. He should also learn to be more polite. He was simply rude to us by switching off the wifi. Rest is all okay.
It's extremely small rooms even for a double occupancy. We took a double occupancy room with an extra bed as we had 2 kids; but the room was extremely small and not at all good even for double occupancy. There is no in house restaurant. They just serve you tea and coffee if asked for. This is 2 km away from main road, in a residential locality so going hunting for a place to eat becomes a challenge. To catch an auto too you have to go 2 km. Extremely small toilets. No proper water comes in the shower and toilet spray. Though it's clean i wouldn't recommend this to anyone
The caretaker at the inn is not at all co-operative. Owner seemed like a good person but was not available during our stay. amenities are zero, and for the price, room sizes are also too small. no difference between the non-suite rooms.
It is a decent place to stay, quite at the heart of Udupi. There is a very famous eatery called Machali 750m away from the stay, 550m away from Krishna Temple, and 6kms away from Malpe beach . The place is a traditional home turned into a homestay/airbnb gives quite vintage look and feel. Natural light and ventilation is an issue because you can't open the windows as it opens up to the parking/garden affecting the privacy(no curtains as well). Full marks for cleanliness. Bathrooms are very well maintained. Size of the room was pretty small. If you have a packed day with outdoor activities and just need the stay to return back at the end of the day for relaxing then it is quite good.
