I recently took a boating trip with Campong, hoping to experience the migratory birds and explore the ruins of old temples submerged in the Pong Dam. While the trip offered a few glimpses of migratory birds, the numbers were far fewer than I had anticipated, which I understand is due to the seasonality of bird migration. However, what was truly disappointing was the lack of access to the ancient ruins, which were entirely missed despite being within reach. Our guide, Mr. Ashutosh, was quite knowledgeable, and our boatsman, Mr. Monu, was strong and courteous, but these positives were somewhat overshadowed by the lack of transparency and professionalism in the service. When I first inquired about the trip, I was told it would cost Rs. 1000 for a half-hour ride, and the entire trip would take about 1 hour and 15 minutes. However, when we set out, I quickly realized that the boat was manually rowed, which severely limited our speed and range. The ride turned out to take much longer--over an hour and a half--before we reached an island where we hoped to see abundant birds. Unfortunately, instead of a beautiful natural setting, we were met with litter, trash, and plastic, which was far from the serene experience we had hoped for. At that point, it felt like we were being taken for a ride, with the extended time in the water leading to additional charges. It was frustrating to feel misled, as clearer and more detailed information about the ride and what to expect could have set the right expectations from the start.
It was great and most adventurous experience of my life. The path to the site is narrow, broken, congested with weed shrubs and for that you will at first doubt for sure that you are leading towards hell going through the lost way but you need to hold your patience and calmness for little while. Nevertheless, we all know difficult roads more or less lead to beautiful destinations and you will be there soon. Actually the way to the destination itself is like an adventure. We found an opportunity of off-roading at that unique road(non-pakka) and got some good experience from the path. We did kayaking at the main site and it was our first such experience of lonely boating and that also in the water of dam. It was like an achievement for us by overcoming our fears and was kind of sport, fun and interaction with nature. Everyone should visit once to this location to feel the adventures of life and overcoming your fears if any. Live young Live free
A place where you must go for a perfect getaway. The host is really nice and humble and the service is amazing. The adventure activities that they offer are perfect. Had a lovely time.
We biked to Campong and it took us around 11 hrs with 3-4 breaks. This place is a hidden gem, the views and quite is amazing and one wouldn't believe a place like this exists. The rooms are basic and can be maintained better. The food was good and we had a hearty meal. We also took a boat ride to Rancer island, except the views there is nothing on or off the island.
Location wise serene and picturesque, on the edge of a hillock overlooking the dam. The water is at a walk of 7-10 mins away, so not really camping or staying very near to the water, in case anyone might think so. They have a nice expansive campus. Among the activities offered we kayaked all day, so can't say about others. Manu bhaiya, the staff in there is a savior and is at your service all the time. Food was good, too. However, the only flip side I felt was the cost, per person 2500 is something we paid at parasol camping in chandratal and the tents were luxury tents. But they did provide evening snack which here is separately charged. Plus chandratal is literally at a place where you kind of break your back to reach. So, yes, I felt a bit overpriced. Perhaps the activities can be charged separately on the basis of what one will like to do and staying and fooding prices can be brought down. P. S. Our dogs had a gala time there :)
It is a hidden gem. The owner Mr. Arun Sharma is a good and well spoken person. And the food is surprisingly good. The only downside is the road which leads there...the last 2 -3 kms is a nightmare! But once you reach this place, you'll realise it's worth it.
Fantastic huge home stay just behind the majestic waters of Pong Damn. With water sports and other activities being provided, visiting Campong can be both; a relaxing home away from home and being active amongst nature. One can also take the car to the biggest seasonal grasslands about 30 minutes away. Highly recommended for families and travellers.
