It is good hotel. I had selected it for its location as I had an early morning flight to catch. To my surprise it turned out to be a lovely stay too with a river flowing by so close. The service is very good. Rooms are clean with all the facilities. Had a very comfortable stay.
We had sent a few guests to the place and have had a mixed feedback. Unfortunately, don't have much options in the area for bird-watchers that come to us.||||We made a last moment plan of visiting the place and in a way we'll check the services and property ourselves. Here is the summary:||1) Location - In a village, decent roads till the place. So, all good.||2) Property - Nicely build in small area. Rooms open into balcony towards the lake and view from the rooftop is amazing!||3) Rooms - Decent and spacious rooms, modern washroom which is hard to find around. Amenities - comfortable beds, a/c, geyser.||4) Staff - Manager greeted us with a smile. The guy who waited on us was cribbing he has a lot of work and order at once and not call again and again (asked for water with breakfast). Though if room service is not allowed, they must write it or strictly say no. We appreciate people hiring local staff but proper training or at least asking them not to speak rudely to guests is very important. They guy had no manners and was a big turn off each time he came up and opened his mouth. ||Cook was not good again. No one adds Garam Masala and Chicken Masala to Chilly Cheese! (confirmed from kitchen). Fish was fiery hot. Pakoras and Fries were dipped in oil. Zeera Aloo could somehow be eaten. However, Chicken, Paneer dish and Egg Bhurji were fine.||5) Maintenance - Not up to the mark. We understand it's tough with not much crowd coming in. But you must clear spider webs from entry door of rooms. A/C was throwing dust and sounded horrible and surely needed repair. Cleanliness at the rooftop was another issue. There were bottles, thrown chicken bones all around table and floor, may be from last evening or before. Were not even cleaned up till we left.||||Verdict: We enjoyed our stay BECAUSE of the location and views. I MIGHT suggest the place as it seems the ONLY option to experience that pat of wilderness. But if you ask me to visit again, answer would be NO.
I just came back from Lodge at Pong in Kangra, it was truly an amazing experience.||We were immediately shown very spacious rooms, completely renewed, brand new bathroom, new sofa, new curtains, everything was just perfect !!!! and for a very reasonable price. We were so hungry after the long drive and we ordered our food, also fish, and then went for a swim in the lake. The water was so clear and lovely to swim in.||When we arrived back at the hotel the food was ready, As foreigners we requested not to add chili or masalas and everything was perfect and so tasty. The fish was caught the same day and even now, thinking about it, water comes back into my mouth, so delicious. The whole atmosphere was so peaceful, no noises, beautiful nature, just peace !!! I definitely go back there but then i will stay much longer. This is the perfect place for me to unwind, come back close to myself and just be in peace, thank you Lodge, for being there
Very bad, very bad behaviour from staff . They talked to our ladies very badly and even to us. They took advantage of shady and secluded place and threatened us that you local are not good customers for us. You don't give us tips and also they did not let us park the park when we insist on parking car in the vicinity of their property.
There's only one hotel at Pong Reservoir. It's a carbuncle on the landscape with basic rooms, terrible food, dire management and a website that miserably fails to tell it how it is.||||The view from the roof is lovely. The boat ride on the reservoir is awful.||||I'd booked our rooms by email four months in advance and reconfirmed them five days beforehand, yet when we arrived at the concrete cube on the hill it seemed almost as if we were unexpected. We offered our passports. The manager said they weren't required and didn't ask us to register - perhaps he preferred us to be non-existent, ghosts as far as the hotel's books were concerned.||||We were shown to two rooms, one of which smelled worse than a sewer and had to be changed for another on the floor above. The other had curtains that, once upon a time, had been attached to the rail, and dirty windows that spoiled what could have been a great view towards the reservoir. Both rooms were bare and unloved.||||We'd promised ourselves a relaxing afternoon and a boat trip on the lake so, after a mediocre lunch, we walked across farmland for about half an hour towards the lake. It was hot, and so were we by the time we reached the muddy shoreline. There, a dilapidated vessel with faded paintwork suggesting it once belonged to the local Fisheries Department (perhaps it still did) waited to take us on what the hotel's website called a 'carefree boat ride'. Out on the water, the boatman insisted that we could only travel along a small area in the middle of the nearest part of the lake because there were fishing nets strung out along all the margins. There was only a cool breeze on the water - no birds! Just a handful of common cormorants and a gull sat on an islet and even powerful binoculars couldn't identify any birds on the far distant land. Thankfully, we returned to shore less than half an hour later and walked back to the hotel to cool off with a much-needed drink. The only cold drink on offer was water. We opted for tea.||||Dinner that evening was lunch reincarnated. It obviously hadn't been good in its previous life as it came back in exactly the same form, right down to the last chapatti.||||Afterwards, the manager enquired about what we'd like for breakfast. In the morning, it became clear that he hadn't passed on the information and we had to repeatedly ask the cook-come-waiter for every single thing. Breakfast took an hour...||||As we were about to leave, the manager appeared - in what were clearly his nightclothes - and scribbled the room and boat charges on the back of our food bill. Perhaps we did exist after all - in the restaurant anyway!||||Would I go back? What do you think?
Such a bad experience.Staff was so impolite and bad. They said we don't take care about local customers, because margins are very less and local don't tip. They don't even gave booking, not let us park the car. Such a low quality service, low quality staff
It was a wonderful experience staying there, excellent room service and rooms were also very good. Nice view from the hotel and very hospitable staff and food was also tasty. Overall it was quite a memorable experience staying there..
