This is one of the whackiest hotels I have ever stayed in and we loved it. A former mansion of a wealthy family, it is a fascinating historic building filled with all sorts of art, much of it strange crafts but also much traditional. Our room was enormous, and quiet despite the central and very busy location. Staff were attentive. The restaurants on site are quite good, but not extraordinary. We had massages which were excellent. The second (their first) floor boutique is filled with extraordinary textiles and a must visit.
The House of MG was full of fun surprises for our one-night stay before catching a flight. The house has so much history and its front and center as you walk into the lobby and throughout the property. Our room was very nice with a large living area and bathroom. The bedroom faced the main street which was a little noisy but we were still able to sleep. As we walked through the building there were fun alcoves and mini courtyards everywhere! We spent over an hour just exploring the building and the hotel has done a great job of creating unique experiences throughout.
I recently returned from my stay at The House of MG, and I had to immediately sit down and write this review because my stay was fantastic! The House of MG comprises three hotels/ accommodations: the main hotel, Mangaldas ni Haveli I, and Mangaldas ni Haveli II. I stayed at Mangaldas ni Haveli II for the duration of my stay. Ambiance: The space has an old-worldly charm, reminiscent of the Maharaja times. The architecture and furniture are per the theme and will make you feel like a prince or princess. The room I stayed in also had a balcony with a swing. While it was hot in the summers, the balcony will make an excellent spot to swing and enjoy the cool winds during the winters. Staying at the Haveli has an added advantage - since it is located in a 'pol' (a narrow winding lane, you are near the local life. The main hotel, too, retains its old world charm while also being furnished with modern amenities; it is truly a delight to witness how the hotel has incorporated the old architecture into a modern hotel setting and making it a treat for all guests. Staff: The staff is courteous, polite, and always ready to help. During my stay, they helped me book the rickshaw tour (highly recommend this one), transportation to the main restaurant/ restaurants, etc. It was great interacting with them, too. Facilities: The Haveli has all the necessary facilities - air conditioner, lifts, 24x7 running hot water, housekeeping, etc. The staff leave no stone unturned to ensure that you have a comfortable stay. Food: The food is out of this world! The menu is vegetarian but has many options to choose from. The Haveli has a small cafe/ restaurant, but the real deal is at the main hotel. The main hotel has a restaurant called Agashiye, which offers a terrace view of the city while dining. The restaurant offers a heritage walk post-dining as well. The hotel also has another restaurant called Green House, and the food there is the best! I highly recommend trying the Chocolate Banana Cups - it is so yummy and indulgent! (Also, if you stay at the Haveli, the staff will arrange transportation to the main hotel and back.) Other: I also visited the spa at the main hotel. I got an Ayurveda Abhayangam and a Glow Facial done. The staff was courteous, the ambiance was cozy, and the treatments were top-notch! It is a great way to relax after a rickshaw city tour and a hearty meal. To sum up, staying at The House of MG was one of my best experiences, and I can't wait to go back!
Beautiful property! We enjoyed the artistic, classical Indian-style decorating in the lobby, pool, gardens, and terrace. We stayed in suite 110, which was spacious and had a nice shower with good water pressure (unlike other places we've stayed in India). Breakfast was excellent. The treats left in the room were a nice touch. The staff spoke English and were responsive to our requests.
AMAZINGGG! Everything is just fabulous.. the room is out of this world.. the food is super tasty.. the ambience is just wow.. and super hospitable staff. Also the staff in their main restaurant Agashiye was super warm and hospitable.. strongly recommend
If you are in India in this time of year, nothing is better than House of MG!!!! I have always loved it, but now I know where is heaven on the earth. Even it's hot like hell outside, here I feel that angels are taking care of me. Everybody, I mean every single person has been so nice and they really make me happy every time I see them. I love the lotus pool, spa is heaven, museums and people showing places to me where great, everyone in reception and restaurants are super! .... Of course Haveli, and everything there. All little details (how every room have it's own animals etc) are just See you soon!
Don't stay here!!! Total rip off! They will charge you for everything ... including the WORST "spa" you have ever seen . Hundreds of dollars a night and they will charge you for a "Heritage Walk" that basically takes you to their other properties. They charge you to see the "museum " inside the hotel. The rooftop food is okay. The breakfast is terrible for the price of this hotel. The Green House restaurant is also terrible. I had to ask for my "pizza" to be cooked 3 times, all the toppings were raw and the cheese was not melted. Nice to visit but not worth staying at all . Customer service is less than budget hotels in India ( I have over 25 years experience). Save your money for a real luxury hotel!!
