The only reason I've given my stay at Dodhia Haveli 3 stars is because the stunning building oozes historical charm and grandeur and the rooms are furnished to perfection. However, from the moment that I arrived, I was met with multiple problems and confrontations that should never have been allowed to occur. Firstly, since I was travelling with my mother, I had requested that an extra bed be put in the room. This request was never accepted or rejected, and when I arrived I asked again. A mattress was put on the floor in the room and hastily covered in sheets, and after this cursory solution, we were informed that we would have to pay half the night's rate for this mattress on top of the standard price. It was very unprofessional to make us aware of this fact after it was too late to change our minds -- had we known extra fees would be incurred we would've made do with the double bed. Then the manager respectfully asked us to vacate the room for 30 minutes so that a guest could use it for a zoom meeting. Though we were tired -- it was the last night of our trip -- we gave our consent as long as the room was cleaned thoroughly. When we were given back our room, despite the manager's assurances that it would be returned in a state of cleanliness, we found hair in the sink, someone's wet underpants next to the sink, dried up toothpaste in the designated toothbrush glass, and a heap of plastic bottles in the bin. I accept that mistakes can be made but when I spoke to the relevant member of staff, instead of being apologetic, he responded with exasperation and a sense of bitterness. Then we were told that the card machine wasn't working and that we would need to go out of our way on our last night to take out money in order to settle the bill. Again, in and of itself this isn't an unreasonable ask, but in the wider context of the evening it struck us as being a bit below the belt, especially because it was expressed as an order rather than as a courteous request. We took out money and then found that our room was still dirty. After all of this the hotel still wanted to charge us the full, additional (and arguably absurd) price for the extra "bed", even though we weren't going to make use of the free breakfast due to timings. We managed to negotiate a somewhat fair compromise after a lengthy and conflictual argument. All in all, I would still possibly recommend Dodhia Haveli as the building and aesthetic quality of the property is quite spectacular, but I would urge the staff and management to effect a number of changes as the service we received was really unacceptable. If these changes are made, then I have little doubt that this guesthouse / hotel can capitalise on the beautiful architectural heritage that has been bequeathed to its owner...

Not an ideal place to stay longer than a day or two. It's more of a homestay than a hotel. We stayed for 3 nights and 4 days. Our experience was great on the first day and kept going downhill throughout. The owner doesn't stay near the property so the caretakers do the bare minimum to keep it running and nothing more. It's good for a one night stay but not worth it for a longer duration. Cleanliness: The bed and table tops were clean when we checked in. The washrooms were clean. But there's a lot of dust everywhere else. The carpet looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years. All the cupboards, corners were dusty. The water heating kettle had insects in it. The fridge is just s show piece. The caretakers don't clean the rooms, washrooms during the stay. Comfort: The stay is comfortable and the room is spacious. There are two rooms and we could hear the conversation of people from the other room and the caretakers loudly speaking downstairs late in the night. The place is closer to the market road where you can take an auto or cab. Hospitality: We were served complimentary breakfast. And we paid for dinner at 450/person. The first night the dinner was a good quantity but later it was barely enough. On the last day, the service was completely inexistent. We asked for hot water and had to go downstairs and get it ourselves. We asked for a breakfast, he said he's making it, we had to wait for more than an hour and go downstairs to remind him again when he started to actually do it. He didn't even clear the plates after we ate. Other issues: Some person named Mukesh at the building asked us to lie to Agoda customer support, cancel the reservation on it and pay him in cash for the same amount. When we didn't do it, he shouted at us in anger. We were charged 500/hr for a late checkout which we were informed of only after 12. I kept asking for a bill but we didn't receive any and the owner is unresponsive on calls or messages.
What a magnificent place, I can definitely recommend! This historical guesthouse is an experience on its own, located right in the heart of the old town of Ahmedabad. Even though the busy main road was just a 100 meters away, this place felt like a quiet oasis in the midst of the bustle city. The bedroom was beautifully furnished, had a great en-suite bathroom, a romantic balcony, a working A/C and everything was clean. The host was incredible friendly. Even though I had to wake up early because of a morning flight, the host made me a delicious fresh breakfast which he left at my rooms door at 06:50. Don't doubt, go here!
Beautiful small Haveli in the Old Town of Ahmedabad. Make sure that you get directions and are prepared to walk the final 10 minutes as Auto Rickshaws cannot get down the narrow alleys to the property. We had no problem with any of that and the manager was very helpful with directions. |Our room was on the first floor and was large, full of character, very clean and beautiful windows. If you can get the room on the top floor it has a lovely balcony which is a really great addition. |Be prepared for a bit of night time noise from dogs and the odd motorbike but nothing major. |The manager showed us round the local food markets which were incredible and we later discovered the food was equally incredible! |Our breakfasts were all excellent and generous and we had dinner at the Haveli the night we arrived which was also very good.
This place exudes a magnificent vibe, blending traditional old-style ambiance with modern facilities seamlessly. The AC and room service are top-notch, making it an ideal spot for a picture-perfect family stay. However, what truly sets this place apart is the host, Narayan Ji. His warmth and hospitality are unmatched. He goes above and beyond to make guests feel at home, preparing authentic Gujarati dishes that are nothing short of delightful. His humility, politeness, and willingness to assist with anything you need make him an integral part of the experience. Narayan Ji is not just a host but a gracious presence that elevates the entire stay. I can't recommend this place enough for a family getaway, thanks in large part to his outstanding service.
We booked this place looking at photos and great reviews but to be honest we were not impressed compare to price we paid.|Following is honest feedback||1)Accecibility is problem...Auto rics or cabs don't drop at doorstep. There is good 5 min walk. There is shortcut open till 7 pm but we were not told this even after 2 calls they made to confirm that we are coming. we had to walk with our luggage. Then caretaker said i would have come to pickup if u had asked me. This was strange||2) The place is in crowded old city and it is not pleasant to walk in surrounding. Not scenic at all||3) Interior is worn out and does not match pictures. It was noisy as you clearly here neighbours conversation entire night people group and make lot of noise ||4) Room service was not done inspite of telling||5) No soap shampoo got only after we requested ||6) We asked for reference for bandhni saree Shops. We were sent to a place 25 min drive and there were no sarees sold there.||7) We felt caretaker is all talks person but avoidant . Did help us with early morning drop when we insisted ||8)) Our room had terrace but nothing good to see as surrounding is not nice. Don't go by pictures ||Some Plus Points|We got really nice home cooked local food for breakfast and dinner. Tea coffee was refreshing||Overall it was ok but won't go there again
Brilliant haveli stay. I stayed 2 nights in March/April 2023 and loved my stay. I would have liked a longer stay and will return. The manager and his wife were amazingly helpful and went out of their way to ensure I was well fed (delicious home cooked food), comfortable, and to showcase Ahmedabad. I was late in from the airport and the manager was waiting at the door at 1am, worried that I was lost and ready to help walk me through the POL streets. The view from the bedroom window, looking over the nearby temple, is gorgeous and instagram-able. Both rooms look on to the little street and are very quiet. One has a balcony and the other shuttered windows that opened up and let the sunshine in. I sat sipping marsala tea watching the monkeys jump from roof to roof. The rooms are so pretty and atmospheric. They are spacious, comfortable and super clean. Location was easy walking in seeing the markets and the manager was helpful in guiding through the the old city sights and POL houses. It is a great experience walking through the POL district. There are stairs which are easy enough and the manager helps with luggage. I can't wait to go back to visit this very friendly and atmospheric haveli. Recommended for those wanting more than a hotel room. It was simply a delightfully experience.
This is the correct google map location. Rooms were clean. Caretaker was very polite and helpful.
