I got out of my bus from Varanasi and it was at 6 in the morning. I did not have too much patience to search around for hotels and lodges as I was tired and in a hurry! :) . The first thing you notice when you enter the town from the side of the main entrance of the temple is Hotel Shiva. It is right opposite the Maha Bodhi temple. The room windows give perfect views of the temple, and could be a good view to get up to every morning. Do not expect room service or whatever unless you ask for it. But once you ask for things, everything is done within no time. Reasonable price as well, for the location. Overall, good experience. They have a nice restaurant with an internet cafe too.

Very nice people. The food was average fast food. Right next to Mahabhodi Temple This is an Indian style budget hotel meaning no hot water, dirty rooms poorly maintained, extremely noisy. They were build something on the roof above me from 6am to 10 or 11pm with lots of banging and loud music cam from the vendors and Hindu temples nearby, twice all through the night. If you can put up with all that to be near the place of the Buddha's enlightenment, go for it.|
Reserved through Booking.Com. For the low cost, terrific. Friendly enough and a no-quibble 8.30am early check-in. Got shown three rooms, all very acceptable for this price. Tatty however fine for budget digs. Location cannot be improved upon, just perfect. Free Wi-Fi, patchy in room however good at reception. Cannot fault, just don't expect posh...you are not paying for it
The location is great, very near to Mahabodhi temple. The restaurant at the basement offer good food with reasonable pricing. ||||Room is small, very dirty and dusty. You can find ants everywhere even on the bed. One of the wall of the toilet has so many ants and it drops all over the floor. The room was also extremely noisy especially those facing the main market in front of the hotel entrance. I was there during one of the few days where the Hindu celebrate their festival and their amplifier blasted from 4am till 11pm. For those who wish to have a quiet and good sleep, this is definitely not the right place.||||Just to add, as stated by one of the reviewer, the photo shown here is not of the hotel!
It's very hard for me to give a good rating when the customers are treated without respect. The are hotels which want to provide a good experience, a good service and a pleasant stay. And there are hotels which just don't care.||||At Shiva they decided, for whatever ridiculous reason, to change their wifi password daily, sometimes even twice a day. Of course they don't tell the customer, because they give a s...||||When I arrived, I asked for the password. Proudly they gave me the password and I went to my room. However, the internet didn't work. I assumed that the distance is too far, so I didn't use the internet for the next hours. But then I found out that the internet actually worked. They just changed the password a few minutes after they gave me the expired password. Of course without telling me anything about it.||||And it was not uncommon. Sometimes I got the password only to realize that they changed it a few moments later. To get the access back, you have to all the way back to the lobby and beg for the password.||||They don't even have a time when they change the password, like every morning, so you can prepare yourself for it. No, it's totally random, as if they had to protect the pentagon with their internet.||||On top of that, the deactivate the internet in the evening for the whole night. Of course the customer are not informed about that.||||If the internet connection doesn't work properly. Well, it's an annoying issue but just a minor things. But if the customer are treated like that, showing that nobody cares about the customers, then it's really not a pleasant place to be.
Next to main temple, only budget option available in the town. Restaurant does cheap and adequate food. But the photo of the room on here is not of the hotel! Pur room was a dingy dark filthy room especially bad was the stinking and leaking toilet. Not sure if this was the hotels fault, but continual on off power problems through out our stay, which meant no fan throughout most of the night.
Possibly nearest place in the town where you can stay near Mahabodhi Temple. They serve good food. I stayed here for 6 days and it was nice experience except for few times when I had to wait for breakfast.
