Prabhakar Homestay

An excellent homestay with comfortable and spacious rooms, and very good food, some of which is grown in the garden. Sheila and Mahesh are wonderful hosts. We enjoyed the living room with plenty of space to relax, and liked looking at the garden too.

This is a lovely property owned by a lovely couple - Sheila and Mahesh. I spent my last night in Assam here and it was perfect. There were three other guests and the staff prepared a delicious buffet dinner suited to western tastes. The cost was a reasonable 750 rupees. ||Champa, a large corner room had a nice bathroom, air conditioning, TV available (but I never turned it on). It faced the street and was very quiet. You could her the birds in the morning.||Wi-fi is available, but it was weak in my room. Others reported good reception in their rooms. So if there is a problem, try using it in the sitting area next to the dining room.||This is a lovely property with a friendly and safe atmosphere. ||

This is a delightful property with a lovely garden in the hills above Guwahati (with the distant hoots of trains in the background - a lovely romantic sound to me). It offers VERY comfortable, clean and well managed accommodation.|While more expensive than some others, the quality of this offering does justify its pricing at the high-end of the homestay sector.|Our room was most spacious with a large, firm bed; good ensuite with walk-in shower, and ample tastefully decorated sitting areas with view. Tea, coffee etc are available throughout the day, with fabulous onsite meals also available - quite pricey by Indian standards but wonderful.|There was good wifi and they will organise cars for you.|Based on our experiences of other homestays in the north-east, this was of TOP comparable standard. In fact, we used Prabhakar twice - on arriving and departing from our trip to the north-east states.|BUT BEWARE - we booked first time via booking.com under the name "Vamoose Prabhakar" - DON'T DO THIS. It is not an authorised account and the owner knew nothing about it (second time we booked direct with the owner). Some high quality travel agents (eg Audley in the UK) do have relationships with this homestay. Otherwise BOOK DIRECTLY WITH THE OWNER VIA WHATSAPP ON +91 94350 33222 - her name is Professor Shiela.|Absolutely recommended.|

We stayed for 2 nights at the wonderful Prabhakar home stay over the Christmas break. Shiela and Mahesh are fantastic hosts. The room was huge and the beds comfortable. The food was really delicious and plentiful. Nothing was too much trouble. Really hope to return and find out more about Mahesh's elrhino project, which is helping to save elephants, rhinos and save the planet whilst providing jobs and skills for the local community. Huge respect.

We came back...our memories of five years ago were still so strong so we had no doubt where we wanted to stay in Guwahati, first stop of our long world tour. Our delightful hosts, Mrs Shiela and Mr Mahesh, welcomed us back and once again made us feel like at home, only thing is that they took carr of all our needs making us feel like the best of their friends...better!|Their guesthouse is charming, a real home just slightly off the main noisy streets but then close to whatever you want to visit. Spacious rooms, very clean, superb breakfast and dinner all in a magic atmosphere. We couldn't have had a better starter! Thank you so much!!!

It's a nice beautiful bungalow located slighly off the main city. The big room is very nice with beautiful view but the room we got didnt have any. the breakfast is not good. The hosts a nice and attend to you. Both of them are a good conversationalist.

During our three weeks in the North East of India we came three times through this lovely homestay. It's a true heaven in in this crowed city of Ghuwahati.||Shiela and Mahesh have converted the upper floor apartment into a gorgeous homestay with huge bedrooms with en-suit bathrooms, sitting room, eating area, library, balconies. And in the apartments kitchen Pankas creates the most delicious home cooked Assamese dishes. We were really spoiled and of course have eaten way too much.||Shiela and Mahesh treated us like family and helped in whatever matter we needed assistance. In short, THE place to stay in Ghuwahati!

the homestay is more like your own luxury apartment with balcony and your very own chef. Excellent food and place to rest. Homestay a little distance from the town and river though, but perfet for backstreet local walks... The hosts of the homestay are fascinating and very welcoming people.
