I stayed here while attending a conference at the uni and L'Orangerie was a convenient easy 15 minute walk away. The villa is a good 40 minutes walk into the city but there are good bus services running from just outside. Taxi's to/from Bari train station were about 10euros (its30 from the airport). The villa is gorgeous, set in its own orange and olive groves but bizarrely in the midst of high rise offices, banks and the childrens hospital! Beautifully furnished rooms, modern furniture but all italianate and suiting the old building perfecty. High ceilings, ornate beds, oil paintings, modern bathroom with full size shower. Breakfast served in the central lobby, cakes, cereals, good coffee, yoghurts, jams and crackers (sadly no bread, cheese or eggs). Staff very helpful and snacks and coffees can be ordered most of the day until about 8pm. Parking on site, very secure (the whole premises are accessed via electric gates - if I had been travelling as a woman alone in a strange place I would have liked this very much as the gardens are very pleasant). Not much english spoken so you really need to make an effort. Payment was requested in cash which was a bit of a shock! I think there are 5 rooms for rent, from what we could see it was busy mainly with italian families stopping over en route to/from the international airport. Plenty of really good restaurants nearby. Bari itself is decepetive - it looks pretty run down and grotty but actually I felt really safe here and like that they do things the old way, traditional values. Top tip, use public transport and do travel further afield - Matera and the sassi (troglodyte cave city) is only an hour away on a lovely rain ride and is a spectacular Unesco world heritage site.
This is an old Villa with an orange garden encircled by high walls. The rooms are huge square rooms with a 5m ceiling, inside it they have build a sort of "cubicle" as a bathroom (but still larger than most hotel's bathroom). The furniture is good and the bed are comfortable. ||Really nice environment: we left the kids roaming into the garden (but you should assume they know how to swim as the pool was full of water and unguarded). There they also have a stone oven for pizzas. Towels and bathroom supplies were a bit tight.||||It is conveniently located just at the outskirt of Bari (you can easily reach it from the ring road in less than two minutes with the car (they have a private parking place within the walls). The trade off is that on the other side of the wall there is the emergency center of the pediatric hospital but for the night we stayed didn't notice any noise.||||The breakfast was simple continental one with freshly baked and good croissants. I marked a three for service because my wife asked for a cappuccino and she got one in which the milk has gone sour. When we complained, the young lady at the reception promptly changed it with a freshly opened bottle but she shouldn't have served it in the first place.||||The swimming pool was full of water but not clean but I think it was still too cold for using it so it was not really operated. It looked good.||||Room for four people and bathroom in the room, breakfast and the parking for the car for 115Euro for a night.
Nobody to show us the room, everything was locked up. From a distance they openen the gate so we could go inside! There would be some one there at 15.30 but no one showed up. I rang because we wanted information to go out in Centro historico. They would be there at 18.30 they said then! I said we couldn't wait and she gave me the bus number. Room was nothing special, one tiny little wardrobe to hang your clothes, no shelving, Only one little chair! I would invest in a good build wardrobe with shelves. The mattress was awful, the springs hurts our body's. Overly decorated room! Curly loose bed head, wasn't fixed. Fluffy curtains and table cloths but no amenities what so ever. Little shower cabine, my husband (big man) felt not good about that. Breakfast was terrible, lukewarm coffee and tea with foam on it, water had not boiled, and it took ages to come. Two different sorts of old cereals in little jam pots . No lovely fresh bread (toast in plastic), no cheese, no ham, only little pre packed jams and other horrible things. No yogurt on the breakfast table, so I took it myself out of the fridge not fresh yogurt off course, pre packed. Also some sweet stuff from the day before. The cleaning lady was lovely. The man who was in and out was very unfriendly, probably the owner! We were going to stay for four nights, but no thank you. 1 night was more than enough! Not a high end B&B. Nice old house in a mainly modern area ! Far away from the lovely town, Bari!
Me and my 2 friends spent a night at this little hostel. The place was really nice and quiet, they welcomed us pretty late with the smile. The room was perfect and clean, and above of that, it was cheap.
this place is about 20 minutes walk to most attractions but has couple nice restaurants nearby.||We really enjoyed Ristorante Ai 2 Ghiottoni just a block away. It has little nice pool and perfect very relaxing garden. decent breakfast. Very high ceiling the room.
For a place that calls itself "executive", the L'Orangerie has quite a cheek about it!||I stayed for family reasons only 2 nights in July this year and will never repeat the experience. The b&b has an electric gate for cars access etc, but the windows and shutters are the original ones (the building used to be an historic private residence) and so posing no problems to even the most inexperienced of thieves. ||I found out at check-out that the air-conditioning was a chargeable option (at no point during booking of my room via email was I told this!) and the breakfast was not there when I was leaving my room in the morning. ||I also learnt at check-out that one needs to pay cash as the b&b no longer has a credit card machine.... surreal! ||the bidet was broken in the room I was checked-in initially with only a hand-written note left on it saying (not to use)...not very good and professional as it should at least been printed! I asked to be moved to a different room which was done, but in this second one I noticed the shutters were in need of some serious TLC (tender loving care)...not acceptable.||Also to be noted the wi-fi was very poor and slow.
Scam! When you want to book a room, they have different price prepared, and sending e-mail. Not fair.
