Don't trust the photos, they are misleading. I thought I'd book a charming and authentic monastery-type room and ended up in a tiny cellar vault without daylight. Our room, room nr. 3, was at the back of the building and the only window (with a curtain) led into the hallway. The room had absolutely no daylight and felt kind of damp. They could probably have made something nice of it with sophisticated lighting or using the "abbazia" (abbey) theme as a design principle, doing the room up like a monk's cell. Instead there was a modern painting in the bedroom and an Egyptian papyrus in the bathroom - eclectic and without any rhyme or reason, just anything hung on the walls.||||The wardrobe was a little niche just off the bedroom and down a few steps. It had two racks with clothes hangers and a board with a coffee machine. There was no other board or any other possibility where to lay clothes that don't go on hangers. I had no choice but to lay my underwear and socks next to the coffee. Rather bizarrely, there was a bucket of coal in this niche as well. I have no idea what for. There is no oven or anything where one might need coal, and as a decorative item it's just plain weird (and dusty). A curtain in front of this niche would have been nice as apart from the coffee machine it also held a (humming) refrigerator and an electric heater. Would have been nice to close off this display of household appliances with a curtain.||||The bathroom was badly lit and the mirror tiny. I had a hard time navigating my contact lenses into my eyes and putting on some make-up when going out for a nice dinner. The shower was a ridiculous, oversized wellness shower installation with massage jets on various levels, but no water pressure, and the shower cabin was much too small for something like this. A regular shower head would have been much more fitting.||There was no soap. To wash our hands, we ripped open the provided single portions of shower gel and used tiny doses. After two years of pandemic, the concept of a soap dispenser should be known to everybody; would be very easy to just provide put one of these, but apparently that's too much to ask for.||||Our room was not made up during the day. In the evening, we returned to the same unmade bed and full trash can. It seems like somebody just wants to make money off tourists and not invest any work or display any kind of hospitality.||||We took our breakfast in a little cafe just a short walk away, which is basically fine, but we were allowed one coffee and one brioche per person. Anything else, even a second cup of coffee, we had to pay for ourselves. Call me excessive, but I like two cups of coffee in the morning, and paying for a bed AND BREAKFAST and having to pay for the second coffee myself just puts me out of sorts. The breakfast cafe does offer juices, toast, eggs ... Would have been a nice gesture from Abbazia degli Svevi to arrange for a decent breakfast for their guests; we only got the bare minimum.||||The accommodation works via self check-in and the keys are stored in a box with a code, which is texted to the guests. Basically, I do not mind this type of check-in, but here it means that there is absolutely no reception, no staff, no common areas and one cannot even store luggage before check-in and after check-out. We incurred extra costs because we always had to deposit our luggage at the train station and pay the fee (they charge per piece).||||The Wifi practically never worked.||||A price of EU 50 per night would probably be fair for this abode and provide a place to stay for those who travel on a shoestring and do not ask for much. But asking EU 90 for a tiny, damp room without daylight, without taking any care of the guests (e.g. in the form of making the bed during the day), allowing the most measly of breakfasts only and forcing them to pay extra to store their luggage is outrageous and audacious.||||A few small touches here and there - a piece of soap, proper light in the bathroom, making up the room during the day, a proper breakfast - would already have made a difference. I do believe something can be made of a such a vault, but it requires a little bit of effort and also some thought and hospitality, all of which are entirely missing here.

horrible experience, the room was a small little dungeon type thing. It could work well but just wasn't a great experience. The photos were very misleading making the room look nice but this was not the case, it was very cold and damp and had a musk that wouldn't leave. The wifi, air conditioning and tv wasn't working and when we wanted breakfast we had to walk to a cafe nearby. The bathroom door didn't shut properly so we didn't have much privacy.
Abbazia Degli Svevi is located in the very old quarter of Bari and from this point of view it is interesting. Our room was arranged in old building with stone ceiling like most of the houses in the old quarter what gives interesting feeling of real history. The internet was unfortunately not working, in several places the plaster on the wall has already separated or was very loose, room definitely need some refreshing works. The payment by credit card was also not possible to made, and the explanation that "it just does not work today" was hard to accept. The Italian breakfast is served in a bistro located 5 min walking distance from the B&B. In general we consider that booking was overpriced, maybe due to the approaching religious fiesta.....
Great ambiance, nice people! The room is tiny but cosy. Breakfast is minimalistic. But the location and the owners make up for it. When you open your bedroomdoor in the morning you will find yourself in a authentic italian street. Tiny italian grandma's are making pasta while their husbands are selling groceries from their window. Everything is nearby!
Not a large appartment, but got everything you need and at a great location. Communication with owner by mail and whatsapp. They give you information and video instructions how to get to and into the appartment. Caracteristic room. One or seperate bed with television on the wall. A small fridge, coffee machine and thea machine. Toilet, bidet, shower, sink and mirror.. Free Wifi. In the old part of Bari. Caracteristic enviroment. Many churches, most famouse for St. Nicholas.
Gatwick - Bari Easy jet Flight Good, Quick Transition through Passport Control & Baggage Collection.|Driver at Arrivals, short pleasant drive, EU20 euros, met lady of B&B room was rustic nice and large, good bed, WiFi was good, shower overall was good! It's in the heart of Old Town bari, breakfast is continental coffee & croissant! I'd give it 4 stars but it's let down by the Italian family who live upstairs who are loud noisy and to the point " Zitto, Zitto" very rude and annoying no respect for paying guests! Old Bari is lovely with a good amount of piazzas - visit Bitonto, And get a Train to Trani up the coast!
Unfortunately we are not glad with our stay in Abbazia degli Svevi. The location was ok, but the room was very noisy and unappropriated. The shower and the sink tap was not working properly. Even it was a winter time, there was not a proper blanket. The lady was very helpful indeed, immediately she has brought us a blanket. The only positive thing is location. Would not stay there again.
These rooms are damp, on a ground or lower ground floor and only one of them has a window. However our main complaint is the list of purported amenities available in each room. We had booked all 3 rooms for a group of 6 and the following amenities were NOT available in any of the rooms: minibar, safety deposit box, air conditioning, hairdryer, iron, desk, seating area, bath, soundproofing, wake up service, wardrobe, clothes rack, shampoo. The rooms are VERY basic and not worth EU95 per night that we paid.
