We had a wonderful experience here. The family is lovely and welcoming and we were served 3 meals a day plus tea. The food was delicious and authentic. They are also more than happy to cater for vegetarians and asked us for our preference in advance. The price was very reasonable. Drinking water is also readily available so no need to waste money and plastic. Mr Maipakchao helped us put together a fantastic itinerary for our stay. The Homestay is located very near a hill from which you can enjoy incredible 360 degree sunrise and sunset views over the lake. It's a short (but steep) trek. I highly recommend you make the effort to see both sunrise and sunset. We did a wonderful sunrise trip on the lake in a traditional boat. We were taken to a fisherman's hut on the lake for tea, biscuit and fried fish. We were also provided a scooter so we could drive ourselves to the National Park and the departure point for Karang Island. I've just noticed some of the 1-star reviews so I'll try to address those too: - Yes the rooms and washrooms are basic but they are comfortable. Consider the price and alternative options and manage your expectations. - Yes, extras like the boat trip and scooter rental have an additional charge. Just ask how much it costs first - it would be entirely unrealistic to expect anything other than accommodation and food to also be included at this price!

Perfect homestay experience. Mr Maipakchao himself is very knowledgeable and it was a treat to discuss the Manipur, INA and loktak stories with them. Floating homestays have been banned by the gov until the new guidelines are circulated so we stayed in the actual home near loktak lake. Food has veg options and was tasty. Went to boating and watch tower to see sunset. Toilet is very basic but with Western seat. Overall a good experience. Would recommend.
I choose this homestay to get the flavor of how the locals live. Maipakchao and his wife, Sarogini were excellent hosts. The price was so reasonable and included all the meals that Sarogini prepared so lovingly. Rooms are basic, but with all you need. Netting over bed, cosy blankets and inside washroom. Lounge overlooking the lake with books on the area. Both hosts speak English and are kind, friendly and helpful with information. I used the bicycle and explored all over. Stay here not in the high price hotel is my suggestion. I am 71, solo woman traveller and embraced the experience of a homestay.
If you're a respectful traveller and have stayed at home stays before, you will love this place. If you're a tourist who is particular about everything and cribs like the person who reviewed this place just before me, , then genuinely don't bother. Stay somewhere else. Mr. Maipakchao and his wife, Mrs. Sarojini are such warm hearted and helpful people. The food they cook is amazing (veg friendly). The room, I agree, can be better, but you have to appreciate the effort they've made with the resources that were available to them. The mosquito net works so well that you'll sleep like a baby. The bedsheets are pure Manipuri cotton so they're very soft too. Their common/TV area overlooks the Loktak lake and is so airy, so perfect to work from. Come here if you want to admire the simple living in Manipur. Mr. Maipakchao is so helpful and has been in the same village for 60 years; he truly cares about the Loktak area and is also a part of the Eco tourism organisation that takes care of responsible and eco-friendly tourism, in the area. The 1200 you spend is worth it, because the time, care and efforts they put into your stay + three meals a day- is better than coming back to an empty hotel room and learning nothing about the local culture. People from all over the world have come and stayed here in these same rooms so if they can be here without a problem, I'm sure you as an Indian can manage without cribbing
A homely experience!. It's a basic but neat homestay in Thanga, Loktak. If you have the right expectation, this is a superb place for the hospitality. Rooms are basic but neat. Parking is on the road side, it is a 20 steps walk down to the homestay. The hosts and family cater to all our needs and also in time. They were also ready to pack us breakfast for the next day's long drive. They also suggested us the must visit places around and also when to visit them.
Mr. Maipakchao and his wife Ms. Sarogini are very friendly and helpful. You'll feel at home, the family care for the guest as their own. The meals are tasty and really awesome especially the black rice kheer. ||Mr. Maipakchao is the head of the local Eco conservation project that is fighting to ensure that the Loktak lake continues to thrive with its unique eco system (The Manipuri Sanghai Deer amongst others), made this stay also fulfilling and very close to my heart. They also provide employment to the women folk by making fishing nets. ||Mr. Maipakchao told a lot about the place, loktak and Manipur. He is trying a lot to educate people about the misinformation prevalent about Manipur. He personally taken us for visiting Keibul Lamjao National Park and also climbed a hill to the viewpoint of Loktak lake, even arranged a boat ride on Loktak Lake.. ||If you are visiting Loktak, you must consider staying here.
Really nice and comfortable place to stay. Great food and very friendly and helpful host.
I spent 15,000 for a cab from Nagaland and a 5.30 hour travel time on terrible roads to get to Maipakchao Home stay which is why I'm compelled to write this review. I don't understand how some properties get a high rating on Google despite being not even worthy of a single star. I took one look at the rooms and I literally fled. I don't want to use harsh words but suffice to say that though I was mentally prepared for a basic, no-frills accommodation, this place was the pits. Just as I reached I saw another group that was, like myself, disgusted and packing off for a better stay. Unless you want to get a feel of what a rats accommodation looks and feels like, don't even dare to peep into this place.
